The Delegated Regulation EU 2025/405 was published, amending sections of Annex II of the Regulation (EU) 2018/848, regarding oenological practices. Brief description of the changes can be found below: Permission of Organic De-alcoholised Wine Production: The regulation addresses the production of organic de-alcoholised wine, which was previously not allowed under Regulation (EU) 2018/848, and permits the use of vacuum distillation for producing de-alcoholised organic wines. In addition, conditions on the use of specific oenological practices (i.e., heat treatments, centrifugation and filtration, partial vacuum evaporation, and distillation) are foreseen. Legal References Updates: The regulation updates references to Commission Regulations (EC) No 606/2009 and (EC) No 607/2009, which have been repealed by Commission Delegated Regulations (EU) 2019/934 and (EU) 2019/33, respectively. The regulation becomes effective on March 18, 2025

This session took place on February 13th as part of the Biofach Congress and IOAS was represented by Amaia Aldana, IOAS Technical Director.

Lauren Carlyle, the incoming Executive Director of IOAS, recently attended the successful Organic World Congress (OWC) 2024 and the IFOAM General Assembly. IOAS Inc. was founded in 1997 by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) to develop the IFOAM accreditation program. This program fosters trust among certification bodies in organic agriculture and supports the growth of production and markets worldwide. The OWC 2024 was an inspiring and transformative event that brought together organic agriculture enthusiasts from around the globe. With engaging plenary sessions and workshops focused on various topics within the organic movement, the congress provided a platform for meaningful discussions and collaboration among stakeholders dedicated to advancing sustainable practices. One of the most exciting announcements from the event was the selection of Negros Occidental in the Philippines as the host for the next Organic World Congress in 2027. This picturesque province is set to offer a vibrant backdrop for another inspiring gathering aimed at further unifying and energizing the global organic movement. The OWC also included the IFOAM-Organics International General Assembly, the organization’s highest decision-making body. This triennial event gathered members to discuss the future of organic agriculture, approve critical motions, and elect a new World Board to lead IFOAM-Organics International for the next three years. The newly elected members of the World Board represent a diverse group of global leaders, each bringing unique expertise and perspectives to their roles. New Delegated Regulation EU 2024/3095: Important Updates on issuance of Certificates of Inspection Until 2025 This is to inform you that a new Delegated Regulation, EU 2024/3095, was published this morning. This regulation amends Regulation EU 2021/1698 by introducing a new Article 30a, which allows for the issuance of Certificates of Inspection (CoIs) under the EU-Equivalence until October 15, 2025. This amendment applies to certification bodies that were recognized under the Equivalence regime and those that are or will be recognized by the end of 2024 under the EU-Compliance Import regime. The allowance is that for operators not yet certified to Regulation EU 2018/848 and its secondary acts by the end of 2024, the above-mentioned certification bodies may issue CoIs with reference to Art. 33(3) of Reg. EC 834/2007, i.e. against the Equivalence regime, until 15th October 2025. The newly published Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/3095 enters into force on 11th December 2024.
