How does a regenerative supply chain look like? ? The biodiversity crisis is the next big wave. Just look at the exotic lionfish. Despite their looks, they are in fact an invasive species, killing Atlantic Ocean fish and disrupting the marine ecosystem. 80% of baby fish, native to coral reefs, are killed within five weeks by these non-native intruders. INVERSA Leathers has taken on this challenge by designing a very special supply chain. The organization is selling luxurious leathers, sustainably produced from invasive species such as the exotic looking lionfish, sourced from divers and hunters in local environments to restore balance. This balance is ensured by traceability down to exact time and location of capture. Furthermore, the intruder's meat is sold to local markets, fully utilizing the raw materials and enhancing microeconomies. This supply chain strategy is a regenerative one under the principle of proportionality. Adjusting capacity and consumption within the proportions that the social-ecological systems can sustainably handle. But so what? Well, every time a lionfish is caught, 70.000 native species are protected. INVERSA Leathers has managed to design a supply chain and business that commercialize their sustainability efforts. ????
