Four awesome Demo Days are in the books for Oregon MESA, providing students an opportunity to showcase the inventions they developed through this fantastic after school invention education program. Congratulations to the amazing student teams who presented their invention projects in Greater Portland, Salem, Klamath Falls, and Lane County! This year’s theme was “Climate Action: Designing for Environmental Sustainability,†and students worked with a client in their community to develop sustainability-related projects using invention education and human-centered design principles. We also enjoyed spotting students with our Inventor Notebooks at the Demo Days! ?? We created the notebooks to help spark ingenuity and creativity for students learning how to solve real-world problems and give them a space to help make their ideas a reality. The Lemelson Foundation is a proud supporter of Demo Days and Oregon MESA, which works to advance educational equity and remove geographic barriers to STEM and invention education for students and families throughout Oregon. ?? Entrepreneurial lessons can be a vital part of invention education. ?? ?? In a recent PBS NewsHour Classroom segment, InventEd network member and educator Dawn Bowlus shared how entrepreneurship programs and Career and Technical Education (CTE) help support the development of inventive skill sets and mindsets. ? As director of the Jacobson Institute at the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center at The University of Iowa, she works at the intersection of invention education and entrepreneurship for K-12 students. Bowlus explained that taking classes in business can help with students' career readiness, and make them more likely to consider creating a startup of their own. “We want them to be critical thinkers, creative, problem solvers, to have grit, to have adaptability, resiliency,†Bowlus said. “And entrepreneurship is one of those subject areas that actually tackles all of those types of skill sets.†Watch the video to hear more from Dawn Bowlus and other educators, and find additional educator resources here: https://lnkd.in/eBkwfDpE #InventionEducation #Invention #Innovation #STEM #STEMeducation #STEMlearning #K12 #Entrepreneurship #Startups
