It's important to get the word out that we need to look at idiopathic Parkinson's as a potential gut first intervention opportunity...the evidence keeps mounting, JAMA just published a cohort study of 9,350 patients looking at GI mucosal damage and subsequent risk of Parkinson's, findings of mucosal damage on upper endoscopy were associated with 76% increased risk of developing Parkinson's. Looking deeper into the new findings, this study also showed that constipation was associated with 2.65 times higher risk of developing Parkinson's. This confirms the Constipation - Parkinson's connection seen in the 24,624 patient Gut BMJ study we discussed that led to the development of Intrinsic Medicine's Phase 2 Parkinson's study protocol.
