This morning at #HSR2024, Dr. Cheick Touré, our Regional Director for West Africa, delivered an outstanding presentation on using #DEI to transform the recruitment & retention of students & health workers in underserved areas. The Takeda-funded Classroom to Care project conducted a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) analysis, collecting data from 21 preservice training institutions aross Mali, Niger, and Senegal. Key takeaways from Touré's presentation: ?? The challenges of health worker shortages in rural areas ?? The importance of integrating DEI principles into health training curricula ?? Practical recommendations for creating inclusive and motivating environments within health training institutions. Stay tuned for more on this work. ?? Congratulations to the entire C2C team and our partners for their unwavering commitment to creating more inclusive & equitable health workforces & systems in West Africa. #HSR2024 #GlobalSymposium #EquityInHealth #DiversityAndInclusion #ClassroomToCare?#GlobalCommunities #IntraHealthInternational #HealthForAll #HealthWorkersSaveLives

"We are at the grasps of the new health challenges driven by climate change,"?says Hon. Minister Yolanda Awel Deng, the minister of health of South Sudan. Rising temperatures, prolonged droughts, and unpredictable flooding have intensified South Sudan's health challenges. “Seven million people?in my country are on the verge of starvation,” she says.?“Malnutrition, waterborne diseases, malaria and cholera outbreaks are more frequent. At the heart of our response to this crisis is our health workforce.” Hon. Deng has a clear call for partners and donors: Increase investment in health workforce development, particularly in training, recruitment, and retention of health workers in vulnerable climate regions. Leaders and funders who convened this week at #COP29, the UN Climate Change Conference, should listen to her. A new post on our VITAL Blog highlights the voice of Hon. Deng, and other leaders like Vanessa Kerry, MD MSc of Seed Global Health at the global level and Kody Kinsley, at the state level in North Carolina, which is also experiencing health impacts from severe weather. Read: https://lnkd.in/gCXvMdzX We were honored Hon. Deng and Kerry provided keynote remarks at our advocacy event with Frontline Health Workers Coalition and other members during #UNGA. And we were excited to hear Kinsley speak at the North Carolina Global Health Alliance Conference and mention the need to prioritize sustainable funding for health workers, including #CHWs. ?? Staff spotlight ?? Meet Data Godfrey, Sr. Finance & Compliance Advisor in #SouthSudan. His personal touch is helping local orgs get closer to priming USAID & PEPFAR awards. Read how Godfrey works with USAID's Accelerating Support to Advanced Local Partners (ASAP II) & the USAID Advancing HIV & AIDS Epidemic Control (AHEC) Activity, both led by IntraHealth International, to support local capacity-strengthening: https://lnkd.in/epZdSPfW At IntraHealth, we have a longstanding commitment to locally led development & to recruiting local experts like Godfrey. As the lead for the ASAP projects, we’ve helped 41 local organizations around the world become new prime partners with USAID! Godfrey has provided intensive operational support to four AHEC local partners. He says his approach is all about doing a “deep dive into their processes” and understanding where their weaknesses and strengths are so he can better customize his coaching and improve their capacity. The tools he helped develop and tailor for the local partners include accrual trackers, a human resources checklist, a procurement tracker, and an asset management system. Find out more in this VITAL post by Amy Gastinger and David J. Dobrowolski.
