On December 9, the Heising-Simons Foundation hosted a gathering for International #HumanRightsDay. Our founder, Jackie Rotman, spoke on a panel about AI and Human Rights, following President Obama and several prominent human rights activists.
Jackie shared the stage with Nabiha Syed of Mozilla Foundation and Alexandra Reeve Givens of Center for Democracy & Technology. Their panel explored the impact of algorithmic biases on various issues even before the rise of recent AI developments. They also discussed how civil society, the philanthropic sector, and government agencies can collaborate effectively to drive change and advance equity in technology.
The event brought together leaders, advocates, and community members for a morning of impactful discussions on human rights and resilience. This year’s theme, "Hope and Human Rights," honored the unwavering pursuit of justice and dignity worldwide. Topics covered included police brutality, the right of incarcerated parents to see their children, housing issues in San Francisco, and more.
Enormous congratulations to the incredible hosts - including Caitlin Heising and Liz Simons - and organizers of this event. We were deeply honored to be part of such an inspiring gathering with amazing change makers!
