Last week, we had the honor of participating in the RightsCon Summit in Taipei, Taiwan. Our founder and CEO, Jackie Rotman, joined thousands of other digital rights advocates from all around the world in the world’s leading summit on human rights in the digital age. ??? On Monday, February 24, she joined Hyra B. (Digital Rights Foundation) Jemma Levene (Center for Countering Digital Hate), and Phanorinn Chhun (MSI International Cambodia) for the roundtable discussion “Silenced and misled: the twin threats of misinformation and censorship in SRHR”. We discussed online health information suppression and explored the intricate challenges of misinformation and censorship within our information ecosystem. On Wednesday, February 26, Jackie co-led with Thomas Vink of Digital Freedom Fund and Reine Zahreddine ?? of Access Now on the discussion “Community-centred funding for strategic litigation on digital rights.” This was an exciting opportunity to discuss how funders and civil society organizations can effectively leverage litigation to advance human rights - with community-centered funding partnerships. Jackie spoke about CIJ’s experience as a social justice organization pursuing digital rights litigation in Europe. She also met with CIJ partners like the Omidyar Network? (Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund) and the Digital Freedom Fund, and our inspiring EU-based digital rights legal partners at Gesellschaft für Freiheitsrechte e.V..?? And she met with funders including Ford Foundation and Luminate. This was an amazing opportunity to connect with so many important human rights advocates, policymakers, academics, journalists, funders, and organizations working at the intersection of human rights and technology! Thank you to the RightsCon organization and to all of the people who engaged with our panels and who continuously partner to advance freedom of expression and access to information! ???? #RightsCon2025 #DigitalRights #HumanRights #Censorship #DigitalHumanRights

Led the first & largest major investigations into Big Tech platforms suppressing women's health. Advocating for change.
关于我们
We are a nonprofit committed to equity and wellbeing in people's intimate lives. We are currently working to change discriminatory ad policies that censor health ads for women and people with vulvas -- with the goal of allowing more health information and expression about women's sexual health and wellness. We released an investigation on this issue in the New York Times and 70 media outlets in 2022, and we're planning strategic actions ahead to change these corporate practices. We also are creating program areas in family law and other areas.

Center for Intimacy Justice is proud to share our selection as part of the Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund's second cohort! As a returning grantee, we're joining 17 other leading organizations championing a renewed technological narrative that focuses on participation, accountability, and equity. This renewed partnership will help us expand our efforts to combat digital suppression regarding sexual and reproductive health information through research, advocacy, digital campaigns, and activism and take our mission to the next level. The Responsible Tech Youth Power Fund (RTYPF) is a philanthropic initiative aimed at supporting youth and intergenerationally led organizations shaping the responsible technology movement. With $2.4 million in total funding supporting innovative work across AI safety, youth mental health, and tech-based climate solutions, RTYPF is empowering the next generation of tech leaders. What makes this year even more special is that grantees were selected by a steering committee of youth peers, truly embodying the fund's commitment to youth leadership. ? We’re so grateful to RTYPF for believing in our vision and recognizing our advocacy by including us in this year’s cohort. We hope to build on our successes and expand our vision by collaborating and learning from our fellow grantees and the diverse board of funders.? ? After Trump was inaugurated, his administration swiftly removed the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website regarding reproductive health information and services. We condemn the Trump administration’s decision, as it targets pregnant people’s right to access abortion services and people’s access to information about their sexual and reproductive health online. We will monitor situations like these further and update our CIJ community. If you or someone you know is struggling to find information about abortion health services due to this decision, we recommend visiting the following organizations:?Aid Access, Women's Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRRAP), Plan C Pills, Women on Web, and Hey Jane.

On Monday, January 20, 2025, the world watched as CEOs of multiple of the largest tech companies were in prime seating at Trump’s inauguration. This and other recent events signal growing concerns about the influence between Washington and Big Tech – and a new era of a Big Tech oligarchy forming. Experts have analyzed that certain Big Tech companies are rallying behind Trump to evade federal regulation and legal repercussions. We will be monitoring this and updating the CIJ community as we continue to find out more – paying close attention to how this will impact our collective access to sexual and reproductive health information and services online. We will work hard together to make sure that all people, regardless of their gender and sexual identity, are able to access the vital information they need about their sexual and reproductive health and rights.

On December 9, the Heising-Simons Foundation hosted a gathering for International #HumanRightsDay. Our founder, Jackie Rotman, spoke on a panel about AI and Human Rights, following President Obama and several prominent human rights activists. Jackie shared the stage with Nabiha Syed of Mozilla Foundation and Alexandra Reeve Givens of Center for Democracy & Technology. Their panel explored the impact of algorithmic biases on various issues even before the rise of recent AI developments. They also discussed how civil society, the philanthropic sector, and government agencies can collaborate effectively to drive change and advance equity in technology. The event brought together leaders, advocates, and community members for a morning of impactful discussions on human rights and resilience. This year’s theme, "Hope and Human Rights," honored the unwavering pursuit of justice and dignity worldwide. Topics covered included police brutality, the right of incarcerated parents to see their children, housing issues in San Francisco, and more. Enormous congratulations to the incredible hosts - including Caitlin Heising and Liz Simons - and organizers of this event. We were deeply honored to be part of such an inspiring gathering with amazing change makers! Photos credit: Chloe Jackman
