DSG Chris Trelawny participated in the Friends of the Djibouti Code of Conduct (DCoC) meeting on 18 March. Key issues were the coordination of international efforts to support DCoC signatory States in their implementation of the DCoC and its Jeddah Amendment, the regional maritime security strategy, civil/military coordination, information sharing and cooperation with industry partners. It was a true honor and privilege to collaborate with so many partner Member States, United Nations bodies, international and regional organizations, civil society, and the private sector at the United Nations Conference on National and Regional Counter-Terrorism, jointly organized by the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) and the Government of Malta. A special acknowledgment to my colleagues at CTED, under the leadership of our ASG and Executive Director, Natalia Gherman. Despite the challenges of time zones and the distance, their unwavering dedication ensured that this Conference was not only an important gathering of experts but also a dynamic platform for meaningful dialogue and exchange. It has been a privilege to work alongside such a professional, passionate, and highly capable team. As the threat of terrorism continues to evolve, so too must our collective response. A comprehensive and integrated approach at both national and regional levels in light of the relevant United Nations resolutions is essential. Back at the Security and Policing UK Home Office Event held at Farnborough, UK, for a very interesting presentation from Sgt Peter Lucas of City of London Police on Project SERVATOR, a UK policing tactic that aims to disrupt a range of criminal activity, including terrorism, while providing a reassuring presence for the public.? INTERPORTPOLICE has worked closely with UK Police Forces to develop our community engagement programmes.?These include?#SeeSayAct, which was developed from the City of London Police’s Project GRIFFIN, which focussed on cooperation between law enforcement and private security. INTERPORTPOLICE is participating in the 49th session of the International Maritime Organization Facilitation (FAL) Committee, which takes place this week at IMO Headquarters this week.?This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the FAL Convention, which was adopted on 9 April 1965. The main objectives of the FAL Convention are to prevent unnecessary delays in maritime traffic, to aid co-operation between Governments, and to secure the highest practicable degree of uniformity in formalities and other procedures.?Central to this process is effective cooperation, coordination and communication between government departments, border control authorities, law enforcement, security practitioners and industry.
