No matter what happens tomorrow, it's evident that cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology are on the ballot. Globally, regulators and policymakers are considering regulations that make sense. In this American Banker #BankThink op-ed, Lewis Cohen and I advocate for them to consider the benefits they can gain from these new technologies. Whether the focus is on market data reliability, safety of customer assets or the need to track assets, decentralized blockchain networks provide improvements over the current financial system. In addition, regulators and policymakers gain the new ability of "self-sovereign regulatory oversight," thereby becoming direct, non-intermediated market observers themselves. Though, as we acknowledge, there are still questions to be answered, regulators and policymakers should try to help provide resolutions rather than run from them. #blockchain #cryptocurrencies #regulation
