Climate change and migration intersect in complex ways.?In a recent APNews article, Dr. Kerilyn Schewel, Co-Director of Duke’s Duke Program on Climate, Resilience and Mobility, collaborated to share her expertise on how climate extremes impact migration patterns. She identifies a critical reality: “some of the most vulnerable people aren’t those displaced by climate extremes, but are rather trapped in place.” Dr. Schewel also emphasizes that understanding regions with strong migration histories can help predict future trends due to climate shocks: “In places where people are already leaving… that’s where we can expect more people to leave in the future.” Climate change and Climate-Related Migration are crucial topics for PCRM's agenda. Happy to announce that I’ve successfully completed the International School on Climate Mobilities, hosted by Earth Refuge, SOAS University of London, IOM - UN Migration Climate Action Division, and Duke Program on Climate, Resilience and Mobility. This 6-week journey has been an incredible opportunity to?deepen my understanding of how climate change influences global mobility and displacement.?It was a privilege to connect with and learn from?leading experts and passionate peers?in the field, working together to explore innovative solutions for the challenges posed by climate-induced migration.
