Earlier this month, NYU Law’s IRAP chapter organized an insightful panel on "Displacement Beyond Borders: Legal Protections for Climate Refugees & Migrants on a Burning Planet.", featuring experts like Amali Tower, Lindsay Jenkins, and Bella Mosselmans, exploring progress made and the gaps remaining in international law protecting those displaced by climate change. The discussion highlighted solutions to strengthen protections, as well as ways for students to get involved nationally and globally through studies and careers. A powerful reminder that the fight for climate justice needs all of us. Let’s keep pushing for policies that protect the most vulnerable.

"Amid worries about his future, Ali said there have been moments of joy in Dallas . For him, it could be as simple as finally being able to wear earrings that he once had to hide in his bag or holding someone’s hands without facing judgment. He said these moments have made him so happy he doesn’t think about anything else. 'Being able to be freely who you are is the best thing ever,' Ali said." https://lnkd.in/e-6HhtTj #RefugeesBelong #RefugeesWelcome

“Today, the court recognized that President Trump cannot overrule this country’s laws with the stroke of a pen. The United States has resettled refugees under Congress’s Refugee Act for nearly 50 years and communities across the country have welcomed and embraced them. Last week alone, the Attorney General of Washington, along with 18 other state attorneys general, filed an amicus brief in support of our case, arguing among other things that refugees benefit their states. Today’s message is clear: The actions of this government do not represent the will of Congress or, crucially, the will of the people.” Deepa Alagesan, International Refugee Assistance Project Senior Supervising Attorney, Litigation https://lnkd.in/eaaN7VXC ??IG @wadedotphoto

This week, we sued?the Trump administration for access to immigrants transferred from the United States to detention at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba under President Trump’s recent order.?We are proud to stand with impacted families and advocates from ACLU, Center for Constitutional Rights, Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, RAICES, American Gateways, and Americans for Immigrant Justice to challenge this administration's egregious attacks on due process rights. "Under the Constitution, detained immigrants facing deportation proceedings on American soil cannot be held incommunicado and denied access to lawyers. The lawsuit argues that the Trump administration cannot eliminate those rights by moving prisoners to foreign soil against their will." https://lnkd.in/emrEhSye #DueProcess4All #CloseGuantanamo
