关于我们
The International Masonry Institute offers quality training for craftworkers, professional education for masonry contractors and free technical assistance to the design and construction communities. IMI is a strategic alliance between the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) and their signatory contractors to promote quality masonry construction. Team IMI consists of architects, engineers, construction managers, skilled craftworkers and instructors, offering what no other group can: expertise in training, craftsmanship, design, installation and marketing. That means buildings built by union craftworkers and contractors get built the right way. The Flynn Center in Maryland and regional centers offer training at all career levels, from apprentice to supervisor, in all the masonry crafts: brick/block, tile, terrazzo, marble, stone, restoration, plaster and cement, plus new products and systems.

Shanise Robinson is paving her way in the tile industry. After graduating from IMI's program at Oneonta Job Corps, the Long Island native began her apprenticeship with BAC Local 7 NY/NJ. "I chose tile setting because I knew that's where I belonged. During a trade visit, I spoke with the tile-setting instructor, Mr. Beamer, and was truly inspired. His extensive experience and unwavering passion for his work resonated with me. I was drawn to a trade that would allow me to pursue my passion and achieve success. I appreciated that most of my training involved hands-on projects, which prepared me to handle real-life scenarios and troubleshoot any issues that may arise. I value the strong connections I formed with the staff during my training. They are like family to me, always striving for my success."? #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #NAW2024 #ApprenticeshipsWork Job Corps

When one of Chicago’s top general contractors asks you to help train their project managers in quality control for ceramic tile installation, you jump on the opportunity. International Masonry Institute is proud to provide quality training for The Walsh Group - Walsh Construction & Archer Western's project managers, project engineers, and superintendents in the topics of masonry and tile as part of Walsh’s annual Quality Week for over a decade. Last week, IMI hosted Walsh’s key construction professionals from across the country for a 90-minute classroom seminar on Critical Points of Tile Design and Installation followed by hands-on demonstrations. This classroom session, delivered simultaneously in-person and virtually, took a close look at the most critical elements of a successful tile project, from preliminary design through the finished installation. Applying the evaluation criteria of the Advanced Certifications for Tile Installers (ACT) to real projects and case studies, it examined the critical requirements of tile’s key specialty skill areas of large format tile, membranes, mud floors and walls, shower receptors, gauged porcelain tile, and grouts. Following the classroom seminar, IMI tile instructors led a demonstration of gauged porcelain tile (GPT) with the participation of the first year tile apprentices. Participants from Walsh viewed tile mockups at various stages from substrate preparation, application of membrane, installation of tile and profile strips, and grouting. Many of Walsh’s PMs also rolled up their sleeves and participated in the hands-on portion of the program, cutting tile and spreading thinset mortar. IMI delivers this program annually during Walsh’s Quality Week to demonstrate the value of IMI training and the skilled labor of BAC craftworkers and contractors. #QualityWeek #Tile #WhyTile #ACT #Education

Meet Caila Hall, a Paul Simon Job Corps graduate who completed her pre-job training at the BAC/IMI International Training Center this year and now works as a BAC ADC 1 IL bricklaying apprentice. "Although I've just started my journey as an apprentice, I'm eager to see where it takes me. The training I underwent this year has prepared me to confidently handle tasks on the job site and have a good understanding of the materials I work with. My mentor and Job Corps instructor, Ms. Townsend, has been incredibly helpful in preparing me for the various obstacles I might face in the field. I feel very confident in the decisions she has guided me to make. I'm still an apprentice and there's so much more for me to learn. The future holds so much promise and I can't wait to grow and gain independence along the way!" #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #NAW2024 Job Corps

As energy codes get stricter, how can masonry meet these new requirements and stay economical? Fortunately, masonry’s innate qualities like thermal mass can provide high-performing and energy-efficient buildings. Join Brian Trimble PE, CDT, LEED AP as he discusses how energy codes treat opaque walls including masonry, and how to use thermal mass to your benefit. ?????Register for this free webinar on Tuesday, November 12: https://hubs.la/Q02NRvsr0

Multi-family structures must have adequate means of evacuating residents in a fire. The current code requirements for 2 or more means of egress for multi-family structures above 3 stories is the minimum number that would allow residents to access a fire-protected stairway so they can escape quickly and safely while also allowing fire fighters rapid access to the points of danger.
