?? 1.3 billion workers in the Asia-Pacific region are in informal employment. This leads to poorer working conditions, lack of access to social protection and labour rights, lower wages, and reduced productivity for both workers and businesses. This needs to change! Tomorrow, the ILO’s Regional Knowledge Sharing Forum kicks off in Bangkok, bringing together experts, stakeholders, and leaders to shape a future of decent, formal work in the region. ?? #AsiaPacificFormalization

Today, the ILO hosted an expert dialogue with the IMF on inequality and social protection in Thailand, as part of their collaboration on social protection financing. Experts from both organizations discussed key findings from their joint study, focusing on current trends and challenges related to inequality. They also exchanged views on how labour market and social protection policies can play a crucial role in reducing inequalities in Thailand.???

Social protection can be an important catalyst towards reduced poverty, strengthened governance and female empowerment in Papua New Guinea. ILO was pleased to launch and validate a Social Protection Diagnostics report for the country and engage in fruitful and rich discussions with national stakeholders about available policy options and on the next steps moving forward. A capacity building workshop on social protection is still ongoing. We are looking forward to working with national stakeholders, UN partners and donors to support Papua New Guinea in building a comprehensive and sustainable social protection system.
