关于我们
The International Journal of First Aid Education (IJFAE) disseminates scholarly and field-based works to advance the knowledge and practices of first aid educators and curriculum designers. Works published may also assist funders, organizations, and governments to identify networks and best practices to inform policy, laws, and measurements surrounding first aid for the preparedness of individuals, communities, and populations. The IJFAE publishes peer-reviewed articles to advance the knowledge and practices of those involved in first aid education (educators, trainers, instructors, researchers, and curriculum designers). The journal aims to increase the helping behaviors of first aid responders (from lay responders to health care professionals) during health emergencies and strengthen community resilience.

The horrific and devastating conflict in many parts of the world poses significant challenges to first aid, humanitarian, and medical responders as they struggle to provide care with limited resources and often while under attack.?The IJFAE seeks a systematic understanding of the gaps and how emerging norms are developed in these conflicts in order to reduce suffering and promote healing at all levels.?Our latest View from the Field article offers a perspective from the coal face of the war on Gaza. We also seek other perspectives that describe the situation and first aid elements that align with the Chain of Survival Behaviors. https://lnkd.in/ecyjJGSb Ibrahim Gholeh International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC IFRC Global First Aid Reference Centre Palestine Red Crescent Society

Deception trial to investigate public reactions to cardiac arrest scenarios Deception studies are fascinating. This new one just published aimed to understand how laypersons react when faced with a simulated out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in a surprising context—an art museum. ?? Key Insights: Immediate Response: Out of 16 participants, 5 recognized the emergency within 40 seconds and acted promptly. Challenges in Recognition: Many participants struggled with identifying the emergency, often due to misinterpretations, distractions, or the bystander effect. Need for Awareness: The findings highlight a crucial need for public education on recognizing cardiac arrest and effectively responding in emergencies. These insights can guide future training and awareness programs to empower individuals to act decisively in real-life emergencies. Navigating the Challenges of Jellyfish Sting Treatments: What Does the Evidence Say? Jellyfish stings are prevalent in temperate coastal regions and can vary from mild irritation to severe reactions. A recent Cochrane Review explored the effectiveness of various treatments for jellyfish stings, including heat, cold, vinegar, and other topical interventions. Key Findings: Heat vs. Cold: Evidence remains very uncertain whether heat or cold provides significant pain relief for jellyfish stings. For bluebottle stings, heat may offer some relief, but results are not conclusive. Topical Treatments: The effectiveness of treatments such as vinegar, ammonia, and Sting Aid is unclear. One study even reported chemical burns from ammonia. Guidelines: Current recommendations from the Australian Red Cross and International Life Saving Federation remain in place, but the evidence supporting these guidelines is weak. Implications: There’s a pressing need for further research to determine the most effective treatments for jellyfish stings. Future studies should aim to test interventions in real-life settings and measure clinically significant outcomes. ?? Empowering Future First Responders: Innovative Research in Bleeding Control by School-Aged Children ?? We're excited to share a groundbreaking pilot study published in the International Journal of First Aid Education. This middle school science project explored the effectiveness of using a single knee versus the traditional CPR posture for life-threatening bleeding control. Key findings: The single knee method generated nearly 50% more force on average than the CPR posture. This method not only shows promise in emergency situations but also frees up hands for other critical tasks, like calling for help. This research highlights the importance of first aid education at a young age, empowering our youth to save lives. Congratulations to Benjamin S. Charlton and his team for their innovative work! ***Is your school running a first aid study? Tell us about it! *** STOP THE BLEED? KIDS SAVE LIVES Nathan Charlton

First aid education can be driven through campaigns of many different organizations. The first link in the Chain of Survival Behaviors is Planning & Preparing which leads to prevention & mitigation-- the Last Mile project below is a great example of a whole community approach that is developmentally appropriate and inclusive. What campaigns do you run that can be shared in the IJFAE?
What a combination of Scouting and Emergency Management in Massachusetts to devise an Integrated Preparedness Plan to serve the 76 communities of the Spirit of Adventure Council with FEMA evidence-based resources and scouting volunteers. The University of Akron is proud to partner and facilitate this "Last Mile" project. Thank you to University of Massachusetts Lowell for hosting the IPPW.
