After a sold-out performance last year, Vietnam refugee and comedian Thom Tran returns to his hometown of Buffalo – this time with friends! Today is Evacuation Day in #Tunisia, marking the retreat of the last French soldiers from the city of Bizerte. France started occupying Tunisia in 1881. In 1956, it controlled only Bizerte. Tunisian forces eventually blockaded the city, forcing France out on October 15, 1963.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is celebrated on the second Monday of October. While it began as a counter-celebration, with some cities and states replacing it for Columbus Day, others still commemorate both. Others also refer to it as Italian American Heritage Day.

Today, people in #Suriname celebrate Maroons Day, marking the #Maroon people's legacy. In the 1600s, the Dutch seized Suriname, bringing 13,000 African slaves to work the fields. Some escaped to the jungle, starting their own community. Maroons now make up 20% of the population.?
