Over the last two days, FCI's Chairman, ?a?atay Baydar, and Regional Director, A. Betül Kurtulus, attended the 7th Conference on International Coordination of Secured Transactions Reform in Istanbul, focusing on the theme, "Bridging the Distance Between Formulation & Implementation." ? ?a?atay delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the importance of advancing secured transactions reform. Meanwhile, Betul connected with participants and discussed how to strengthen financial frameworks globally. ? From 4 to 8 November 2024, a UNIDROIT delegation comprising Secretary-General Ignacio Tirado, Deputy Secretary-General Anna Veneziano, Principal Legal Officer Meiling Huang and Senior Legal Officer William Brydie-Watson, attended the Hong Kong Legal Week 2024, which is a five-day annual flagship event of the legal sector and the Department of Justice (DoJ) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region 香港特別行政區政府 (HKSAR). The second Asia-Pacific International Private Law Summit (APIPLS), jointly organised by #UNIDROIT and the Department of Justice (DoJ) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China (HKSAR), was held on 4 November 2024 in the HKSAR. The event attracted 400 attendees, demonstrating the significant interest in UNIDROIT’s work across the region. The second APIPLS involved presentations by UNIDROIT officers, including Secretary-General Ignacio Tirado, Deputy Secretary-General Anna Veneziano, Principal Legal Officer Meiling Huang and Senior Legal Officer William Brydie-Watson, as well as by distinguished experts, practitioners and academics on the utilisation of UNIDROIT instruments in the Asia-Pacific region. The APIPLS focused on the Principles on Digital Assets and Private Law, the Legal Nature of Verified Carbon Credits, the Cape Town Convention and its Protocols, projects on commercial and investment contracts, as well as on the recently established UNIDROIT Asian Transnational Law Centre (ATLC). On Friday, 8 November, the First Annual Conference of the Roma Tre - UNIDROIT Centre for Transnational Commercial Law and International Arbitration was held at Banca d'Italia - Eurosistema's 'Carlo Azeglio Ciampi' Convention Centre. The event brought together global thought leaders to discuss the legal challenges posed by climate change, with the aim to foster the dialogue between theory and practice on this complex topic. The year 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts and there is still so much potential for greater use in the MENA region. In our joint article, just published in the Uniform Law Review, Professor Nisreen Mahasneh and I examine the use of the UNIDROIT Principles in MENA and the potential for facilitating their future impact in the region, focusing on Arab jurisdictions influenced by Islamic law. #UNIDROIT has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the School of Law of the Universidad Austral, Argentina. This agreement was formalised on 15 October 2024 during a Congress held in Asunción, Paraguay, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the UNIDROIT Principles on International Commercial Contracts.
