On March 16th, as Vice President of UNC Charlotte’s Asian Student Association, I had the pleasure of helping host our 2nd Annual Hello Asia Night Market. This year’s event was a massive success, with over 350 attendees! It was incredible to see so many people dressed in traditional wear, bringing their families along to celebrate and honor the diverse Asian identities that make up our student and local community at Charlotte. We were able to showcase incredible local AAPI performers, student vendors, and non-profits like International House, IMPACT Asian Americans of NC, Project SoL NC, and Project Downtown Charlotte. Their contributions truly enriched the event and made the night even more special. A huge thank you to our amazing food sponsors (Suvidha, Banh Mi Brothers, Sharetea, KPOT, Seoul Food Meat Company, and Mustard Catering) for making the event possible and providing delicious food! I also want to give a heartfelt thanks to ASA alumni Tabitha Adaya and Florence Uy for their generous donations, which helped bring this event to life! A special shout-out to ASA's Executive Board and KASA (Korean American Student Association) for the fantastic collaboration. This event wouldn't have been possible without the hard work and dedication of everyone. Despite the challenges we've faced with the removal of DEI, we are proud to host an event that created a safe space for our community and students to come together. We hope to continue offering spaces such as these where we can embrace diversity and foster change where everyone, regardless of background, can feel supported, empowered, and encouraged to make a positive impact. I’m so proud of what we accomplished together and grateful to everyone who contributed—whether as performers, vendors, or attendees. Your involvement made Hello Asia an unforgettable night, and I’m so excited to see how this event will continue to grow in the future!

What a wonderful week at the Global Ties U.S. National Meeting in Washington, DC! Since the beginning of my time working within the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) network, I knew that my unparalleled access to public diplomacy and people-to-people international relations was something special. Throughout this past week, I was able to connect with hundreds of my colleagues from across the country and the world who are just as committed to building stronger global communities as I am. On Tuesday, I participated in Advocacy Day, a chance for local leaders to meet with congressional staff to highlight the importance of the IVLP program. I had the chance to meet directly with the staff of Sen. Thom Tillis, Rep. Valerie Foushee, and Rep. Deborah Ross and indirectly connect with many other elected officials from North Carolina. What an incredible way to experience my first time inside the congressional buildings! Alongside Samuel Josephson from Raleigh, Lara Crochik with roots in Chapel Hill, and Beth Sheffield from Greensboro, we demonstrated how impactful our local IVLP work is on the North Carolina community. I was blown away by their leadership and passion. The other three days of National Meeting were full of opportunities to learn about how to dive deeper into my work at International House and make connections that will last long into the future. I even attended a reception with the European Union Mission to the United States! My diplomacy roots grew deeper in more ways than one this week. As Autumn Weil, MSML, CFRE, Stéphane Brico, and I travel home today, we look forward to implementing all we learned to strengthen Citizen Diplomacy in Charlotte!

I’m over the moon to announce that I am officially on staff at International House! I will be stepping into the role of Citizen Diplomacy Program Associate while I finish out my senior year here in Charlotte. I’m proud to continue cultivating a global community with IVLP while standing beside our incredible other departments who work diligently to support our local global and immigrant communities. My biggest thanks to Alexandra Buckman and Stéphane Brico for continuing to be the most supportive and hardworking teammates I could ask for. Also, take a look at these pictures from our #PouredWithPurpose event with NoDa Brewing Company in January! It's always such a joy to spend time with the amazing IH staff and collaborate with local businesses at the same time. So much to celebrate!
