IHHA members were spotted doing what they are really good at: pursuit of excellence in Heavy Haul Rail operations, engineering, maintenance, and technology. During the 2024 IHHA Board Week in Perth, Australia, our directors were hosted by Rio Tinto and BHP for insightful site tours: ?? Rio Tinto took the team to their Control Centre, showcasing their integrated Pit to Port logistics. The visit highlighted how they seamlessly plan, schedule, and execute their services with all key stakeholders in one room - offering an impressive view of their entire supply chain. ?? BHP hosted a site tour of their Pilbara Heavy Haul operations and Port Hedland operations, where safety improvements, automation, and cutting-edge technologies were key focal points for enhancing efficiency. IHHA vision in action: promoting excellence in Heavy Haul operations As part of the IHHA Board Strategy Week in Perth, Australia, hosted by BHP, Rio Tinto, and Aurizon, we held a Technical Workshop with the theme: Safe and Sustainable Heavy Haul. Over 80 rail professionals from Australia’s heavy haul community gathered to share insights and developments from around the world. We extend our gratitude to the presenters: 1. A collective industry approach to safety, nationally and internationally, with a human-centered focus This week’s workshop demonstrated that technology and a systems approach are key levers to improving safety and capacity in heavy haul operations. As part of our strategic agenda and commitment to continuous development, we are pleased to announce the election of new leaders during our recent Board meeting: ?? Kari Gonzales has been elected as the new Chair, and Antonio Merheb as Vice Chair, both serving for the next two years. Kari Gonzales, CEO and President of MxV Rail, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to IHHA, and we are thrilled to see her at the helm.
