The Health and Safety Advisory Committee (#HASAC) of #IETS is an advisory committee focused around reproductive biotechnologies, animal health, and food safety. HASAC aims to regularly and extensively review all the literature relevant to those issues, develop and provide guidelines without unduly restricting technological advance and commerce, and communicate its achievements to IETS members and relevant international agencies. HASAC has 5 subcommittees: Regulatory Subcommittee, Research Subcommittee, Forms and Certificates Subcommittee, Manual Subcommittee, and Emerging Technologies and Issues Subcommittee. ?? Groundbreaking First: Kangaroo IVF Success! Congratulations to Dr. Andres Gambini and The University of Queensland team on producing the first-ever kangaroo embryos through IVF! Using intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), this breakthrough opens new possibilities for marsupial conservation, including endangered species like koalas and Tasmanian devils. This research was presented at #IETS2025 last month, along with a summary published in the IETS journal #ReproductionFertilityandDevelopment. Today, IETS received the sad news that Dr. Sarah Moore Seidel passed away peacefully at her home in LaPorte, Colorado. Sarah was the first Executive Secretary of IETS and guided the fledgling society through its formative years from 1977 to 1999. She had a legendary ability to manage details, particularly remembering the faces and names of hundreds of people from dozens of countries. Sarah was awarded the IETS Distinguished Service Award in 2004 for her time at IETS, forever known as “Mrs. IETS”. In 2024, IETS bestowed upon her the title of "IETS Executive Secretary Emerita" in gratitude for her dedication and efforts on behalf of the Society's membership. Sarah was a wonderful, kind, and generous person who will be sorely missed by all who knew her and the IETS community. Details on services for Sarah will be shared as they become available. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time. #InternationalEmbryoTechnologySociety #IETS #InMemoriam

We’d like to extend a huge congratulations to our #IETS2025 Distinguished Practitioner Award Winner! ?? ?? John F. Hasler This award recognizes an embryo transfer practitioner who has made an exceptional contribution to the field of embryo technology. Hasler cofounded Em Tran Inc. in 1979, which became a dominant force in commercial embryo transfer in the United States, introducing groundbreaking applications in embryo splitting, cryopreservation, and in vitro fertilization. As a founding member of the American Embryo Transfer Association and dedicated contributor to IETS, Hasler has never missed any of the 50 IETS Annual Conferences and has served multiple terms on the Board of Governors. After decades of influential work, including research collaborations with universities, lectures in over 20 countries, and technical consulting roles, Hasler retired from Vetoquinol USA in December 2023, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and mentorship in the embryo transfer industry. The IETS is very proud to honor Dr. Hansen! #InternationalEmbryoTechnologySociety #PioneerAward #Winner #Congratulations

We’d like to extend a huge congratulations to our #IETS2025 Pioneer Award Winner! ?? ?? Peter J. Hansen This award recognizes those who were the earliest contributors to the development of embryo transfer technology and the embryo transfer industry. Hansen is a distinguished reproductive biologist whose groundbreaking research has focused on cattle fertility, embryo development, and the effects of heat stress on reproduction. Throughout his prolific career at the University of Florida, Hansen trailblazed work on embryo transfer techniques, identified genetic variants for heat resistance in cattle, and coined the term “embryokines” for maternal cell-signaling molecules that enhance embryo survival. His plethora of contributions include developing heat-resistant Holstein cattle through the SLICK haplotype mutation, advancing in vitro embryo production techniques, and demonstrating how early embryonic programming can enhance beef production efficiency through innovations like choline supplementation. Hansen’s exceptional legacy in reproductive biology and mentorship of over 50 PhD and MS students speak to his lasting impact on the field. The IETS is very proud to honor Dr. Hansen! #InternationalEmbryoTechnologySociety #PioneerAward #Winner #Congratulations
