The International Copper Association (ICA) was proud to participate in the UNFCCC's #COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Building on the momentum from #COP28 where more than 130 countries signed the global pledge to triple renewable energy and double energy efficiency by 2030, ICA had a strong presence at COP29 with eight speaking engagements and numerous bilateral meetings. ICA participated in two events on critical minerals alongside the Climate Champions, World Climate Foundation, and our member Vale Base Metals, advocating for collective ambition on sustainability and the need for countries to create an enabling environment for copper production.?It was fantastic to see?ICA members Anglo American, Teck Resources Limited, Freeport-McMoRan, and Glencore?also on the ground representing responsible critical mineral production. On energy efficiency, ICA presented on Mission Efficiency at the "Advancing Industry Cooperation at COP29 to Achieve Energy Transition Goals" event in partnership with Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL). We also proudly took the stage at the launch of the African Energy Efficiency Alliance, an initiative by the AfricanUnion, and spoke at events organized by UN Environment Programme, the African Development Bank Group, and regional energy efficiency centers.? ICA also spoke at the "Circularity and Decarbonization of the Built Environment: Pathways to Net-Zero" event organized by Tranetech Software Solutions, UN Environment Programme, and the Global Alliance for Building and Construction, highlighting copper's unique circular properties and its role in sustainable technologies. As we look ahead to #COP30 in Brazil, ICA will continue to partner with ICMM, other metals associations, and our members to elevate the metals industry as a critical enabler of the clean energy transition, global decarbonization efforts, and global climate goals. #CriticalMinerals #EnergyEfficiency #CircularEconomy #CleanEnergyTransition #Copper
