Happy Pi(e) Day, 3.14 reasons you need managed IT! Take the extra steps to ensure security of data and avoid financial fraud! The story featured in our Tech Tip is one that we hear about often. The hacker is using a fake email address such as anyane@icsi.com instead of anyone@icsi.com because of the psychology behind how we read tells us we skim over things we frequently see, and you may not catch the small change of one letter in the middle of an email address. Another similar attack to this we have seen going around is when an attacker breaks into a network and gains credentials for an executive's email. They will just watch and wait for the opportunity to jump in saying "I'm heading to our meeting and forgot to purchase the e-gift cards for Chipotle. Can you go buy those and send them to my email address in the next 10 minutes before I get in the meeting?!" With the proper IT and cybersecurity practices put in place you would have red flags flying up as the attacker makes progress but without a team watching over your network you could fall victim to such an attack without realizing until it is too late.
