ICHS’ senior care services enables low-income, nursing-home eligible adults to live independently at home in their community as an alternative to nursing home placement. Participant needs are met with respect to cultural traditions, language, and preferences as part of individualized care plans. Our new Ron Chew Healthy Aging and Wellness Center now under construction on Beacon Hill will expand these services to 400 more participants each year. Help us, help them!? "The future now feels closer than ever before — our dream of a new, state-of-the-art senior care facility that will quadruple our capacity to provide wraparound care to frail, low income seniors,"?—?Kelli Nomura, ICHS CEO. ICHS Foundation was proud to lead a hard-hat tour yesterday of the Ron Chew Healthy Aging & Wellness Center for our site champions. Our advocates, our elected officials, partners, funders, and friends all joined for a presentation with our CEO Kelli Nomura, a tour of the construction site, and a lively discussion on how we will complete this campaign to open up the facility in 2025. Big thanks to all our guests and supporters! We thank our elected officials King County Councilmember Claudia Balducci and King County Councilmember Rod Dembowski who joined us, and for their support for this project by King County and the City of Seattle. Earlier this week our Shoreline clinic team celebrated the clinic’s 10th anniversary!??? ?? ICHS Shoreline opened in 2014 along Aurora Ave North, bringing high-quality and affordable health care to residents of the city of Shoreline and the growing and highly diverse communities straddling King and Snohomish counties. ICHS was the first non-profit community health center to open in Shoreline, and today we serve over 6,800 patients with comprehensive medical and dental services, behavioral health, medication assisted treatment, sexual health services, nutrition services, and much more. Thank you to our patients, our partners, and countless others for your partnership! And please join us in a round of applause for our incredible staff! #ValueCHCs #CommunityHealth #HealthcareIsAHumanRight

Thank you Councilmember Rod Dembowski for visiting us! Our clinic leadership was pleased to host CM Dembowski at our Shoreline clinic location for a discussion on how we can continue advancing health equity in Shoreline and North King County. He also rolled up his sleeve and got his 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine at our in house clinic pharmacy! We are now offering walk-in COVID-19 vaccines to anyone ages 12 and older. Check our website for details. CM Dembowski is a long time supporter of ICHS having been instrumental in the fundraising campaign to build our Shoreline clinic in 2014, and our current campaign to build the Ron Chew Healthy Aging and Wellness Center in Seattle. We thank him for his staunch support of community health centers and for ICHS’ patients. #ValueCHCs #CommunityHealth #CommunityHealthcenter #Advocacy

Our thanks to KUOW Public Radio for their recent reporting on youth suicide in the Asian American community in King County and for including the expertise of our ICHS school-based clinic staff. “That's the beauty of [being] school based, I am embedded into their days at school,” says Ana Short, ICHS Behavioral Health Specialist at the Seattle World School Teen Health Center. Ana spoke with Diana Opong last week on a very pressing topic - the tragic rise in #YouthSuicide, and the nuance and importance of disaggregating #AsianAmerican young people in the statistics. The solutions are real, and ICHS’ school based health center team with our partners Neighborhood House & kandelia make a real “life-changing, and life-saving” impact . We are saddened to learn that Frank Irigon, ICHS’ fourth executive director passed away on September 12, 2024. We remember him for his devotion to the CID. His mentorship to young leaders. His leadership in the civil rights and labor movements. And his steadfast commitment to ICHS through the most challenging period in our organization’s history. Irigon was also instrumental in the first negotiations with the City of Seattle to secure funding to launch ICHS’ first clinic. He and other Asian American community organizers were inspired by and worked in solidarity with Seattle’s Black civil rights leaders. ICHS was modeled on the Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center – known then as the Sidney Miller Free Medical Clinict founded in 1970 by the Seattle Black Panther Party. ICHS was founded in 1973 to serve low-income Asian immigrants who had no options when they needed a doctor who spoke their language. ICHS has always been rooted in the activism and community organizing envisioned by Irigon. He served as ICHS’ executive director from 1988 to 1993. Irigon’s commitment to the CID never wavered. And in his passing, may we remember the hot flame of activism at the heart of ICHS. Rest in power Frankie. Learn more about his leadership and impact https://lnkd.in/ge-ZdZpA
