International Community Health Services (ICHS) is a nonprofit community health center that offers affordable health care services to Seattle and King County’s Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities, as well as other underserved communities. Each year, ICHS provides direct patient care, health support services, and preventive education to over 28,300 individuals. For over 40 years, ICHS has provided culturally-appropriate and multilingual care to improve the health of our community. ICHS began in 1973 as a small storefront clinic in Seattle’s International District. Today it is the largest Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander community health center in Washington state.

On this #GratitudeFriday we’d like to extend our sincere thanks to Roots & Wings Foundation for awarding ICHS a multi-year $225,000 grant to support uncompensated care! Funds will advance ICHS' mission of providing free and low-cost health services for uninsured or underinsured patients who would otherwise not be able to afford them. At ICHS, no one is turned away for care. It doesn't matter who they are, what their background is or whether they can afford to pay. That’s why every year, ICHS provides charity care for patients who have little or no insurance. Big thanks again to Roots and Wings and to all of our donors and partners. #ValueCHCs #CommunityHealth #FQHC #CommunitySupport

Tupu is a charming older man with a friendly smile and a sharp wit. Having lived in the Seattle area for decades, he became disabled after a work injury and his health declined as he found himself more and more isolated. After enrolling in ICHS’ senior care model, #PACE, he’s loving having the help he needs - a care team provides all the health services he needs, transportation to and from home, and a vibrant community at ICHS Legacy House. His health is improving and “I’m living the life” he says smiling. Watch and learn why Tupu loves ICHS PACE. ICHS’ senior care model #PACE is special because, “it’s really about allowing older adults, during their fragile years, to continue to live at home rather than having to be cloistered away inside an institution,” explains Ron Chew in a July 2024 announcement. ICHS has been awarded a major grant from Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSAgov), HHS to expand our #BehavioralHealth Services. We are proud to join community health centers nationwide in providing high-quality, affordable, and culturally competent behavioral health services. The grant will increase access to mental health and substance use disorder services for our patients. “[Health Resources and Services Administration]-funded health centers have a proven record of success in reaching underserved communities,” said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. “This funding expands their access to essential behavioral health services that will benefit entire communities.” This program, Behavioral Health Service Expansion (BHSE), is supported by the Human Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of an award totalling $600,000 with 12% financed with non-governmental sources. "The future now feels closer than ever before — our dream of a new, state-of-the-art senior care facility that will quadruple our capacity to provide wraparound care to frail, low income seniors,"?—?Kelli Nomura, ICHS CEO. ICHS Foundation was proud to lead a hard-hat tour yesterday of the Ron Chew Healthy Aging & Wellness Center for our site champions. Our advocates, our elected officials, partners, funders, and friends all joined for a presentation with our CEO Kelli Nomura, a tour of the construction site, and a lively discussion on how we will complete this campaign to open up the facility in 2025. Big thanks to all our guests and supporters! We thank our elected officials King County Councilmember Claudia Balducci and King County Councilmember Rod Dembowski who joined us, and for their support for this project by King County and the City of Seattle.
