ICAN advances the #WomenPeaceSecurity agenda and spearheads the #WASL network and #SheBuildsPeace campaign.
关于我们
ICAN promotes inclusive and sustainable peace in countries affected by violent conflict, extremism, militarism, and closing political space. Recognizing the gendered impact of conflict and the critical role of women peacebuilders, we fulfill our mission through a dual strategy of: - Shaping and influencing the peace and security policies of governments, multilateral organizations, and the wider international community by providing thought leadership, strategic advice, and gender-responsive analysis and operational guidance; and - Sustaining and strengthening a global movement of innovative locally rooted women peacebuilders to have voice and influence wherever matters of peace, violent conflict, rights, and human security are determined. We bring the word and spirit of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and the global women, peace and security agenda to life. Founded in 2006, ICAN is a registered US-based nonprofit independent organization with 501c3 status.

Thank you for having me on the Comfortable Spot. LLK Podcast production These are the hardest times for those in the peacebuilding sector. Militarism is on the rise, so peacebuilding and diplomacy is being sidelined and defunded. This affects our partners struggling in their own contexts of conflict, while those in the US and Europe are reeling from their governments' decisions. So a reminder that: 1. peace not war is our normal state of being. 2. Nuclear weapons are useful so long as they remain useless. 3. Even if military might dominates, the problems we face today anywhere in the world - within or between states - ultimately need political solutions - ie they need dialogue, negotiations and compromises. 4. So long as negotiations/diplomacy is focused on letting the past frame the present and the future, we will see cycles repeated. It's essential to put the future - the future we want and that we don't want - at the centre of any conflict - and let that future determine present decisions/ actions. 5. Peace actors at all peace tables - especially women peacebuilders - have the experience and expertise needed - be it #Syria, #Palestine #Israel or #Colombia and #Afghanistan.. 6. The evidence... the only evidence we need is the abject failure of current and past practices that we all see - the endless wars that have been started and are not stopped but the same array of political and military leaders - mainly men but also the handful of women that have played their games.
Absolutely delighted to have author and peace activist Sanam Naraghi Anderlini, MBE as a guest. We discuss women, war, change, and the path to global advocacy. Available on #ApplePodcasts via the link here: #WomenInLeadership #WomensRights https://lnkd.in/er-eVfst
