North America's strongest union.

关于我们

The Teamsters are one of North America’s largest, most diverse unions. In 1903, the Teamsters started as a merger of the two leading team driver associations. These drivers were the backbone of America’s robust economic growth, but they needed to organize to wrest their fair share from greedy corporations. Today, the Union’s task is exactly the same. The Teamsters are known as the champion of freight drivers and warehouse workers, but have organized workers in virtually every occupation imaginable, both professional and non-professional, private sector and public sector. Our 1.2 million members are public defenders in Minnesota; vegetable workers in California; sanitation workers in New York; brewers in St. Louis; newspaper workers in Seattle; construction workers in Las Vegas; zoo keepers in Pennsylvania; healthcare workers in Rhode Island; bakery workers in Maine; airline pilots, secretaries and police officers. Name the occupation and chances are we represent those workers somewhere. Teamsters stand ready to organize workers who want to bargain collectively. Once a contract is negotiated and signed, the Union works to enforce it—holding management’s feet to the fire and invoking contract grievance procedures if management chooses not to. Wages and benefits under Teamster contracts are markedly better than those of non-union employees in similar jobs. Teamster contracts are the guarantors of decent wages, fair promotion, health coverage, job security, paid time-off and retirement income. The Teamsters Union also performs vital tasks in such areas as pension management, safety & health, community outreach, governmental affairs and communications. For more than a century, the Teamsters have been a public voice for the rights and aspirations of working men and women and a key player in securing them.

“She was raised by a Teamster. She saw what it means to have the right to organize, to earn a fair wage, and to retire with dignity. She knows that unions are the best shot workers have at winning the fight against the corporate elites who sell them out to the lowest bidder. And she has repeatedly shown her real commitment to protecting working people from greedy corporations.” https://lnkd.in/eJrq9b4q

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has over 1.4 million active members and 500,000 retirees, making it one of the largest unions on Earth. O’Brien is the no-nonsense head of that guild and a lifelong Democrat. But the price of groceries doesn’t escape him, he added, or seeking out like-minded worthy leaders. “There’s a lot of talent out there in the country,” he said, naming Josh Shapiro and Gretchen Whitmer, governors of Pennsylvania and Michigan, respectively, as two quick examples. “I’m from Massachusetts where we get a lot done. “What the Democratic party got wrong is what we’ve been saying for the past eight months,” he added. “Instead of being consulted, they try to talk down to you. Both parties need to step up and prove they support working people.” https://lnkd.in/e3M52aG8

  • This weekend, hundreds of Teamsters from across the region gathered at Teamsters Local 107’s union hall in Philadelphia for an Amazon Teamsters Day of Solidarity rally. Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien, Senator Bob Casey, labor leaders, and elected officials rallied in support of Amazon workers who are pushing back against the e-commerce giant and organizing for union rights, respect, fair wages, and a safe workplace. “We are in the fight of our lives to organize Amazon,” O’Brien said. “Amazon not only affects package delivery — it harms every single industry we represent because Amazon has its dirty little fingers on everything. This fight today may not seem like yours, but it may be yours tomorrow. We need all hands-on deck.” Ahead of Election Day, Teamsters drilled down on the importance of ensuring we protect Teamsters-backed candidates who are currently seeking elected office, like Senator Casey, Congressman Donald Norcross, Pennsylvania Candidate for Attorney General Eugene DePasquale, and Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Joanna McClinton. With the support of elected officials in every state and at every level of government, Amazon will be held accountable and the workers who make them profitable will have strong Teamsters contracts they deserve.

  • Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman helped kick off the 2024 convention of Teamsters for a Democratic Union (TDU) on Friday night in Chicago. The annual affair includes workshops, guest speakers, and other opportunities for rank-and-file Teamsters to learn more about contract enforcement, member engagement, and building worker power. O’Brien emphasized the importance of member collaboration and union solidarity as the Teamsters International Union dramatically increases successful organizing campaigns nationwide — at Amazon, Costco, the American Red Cross, UPS, and other major employers. In just the past two-and-a-half years under O’Brien and Zuckerman, the Teamsters have organized 57,000 new members into the union. “The Teamsters are operating more aggressively and with more militancy today than ever before. And together we are making our powerful and influential union bigger, faster, and stronger,” O’Brien told TDU convention attendees. “This is our time as Teamsters. Taking on Amazon and welcoming more workers into our union will define the labor movement for generations to come. We need all hands on deck.”

  • UNITED AIRLINES TEAMSTERS AT SFO FIGHT TO KEEP COMPANY FROM OUTSOURCING WORK For over two decades, United Airlines Teamsters at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) have provided their expertise to maintain and repair the Pratt & Whitney F117 engines that power the C-17 Globemaster for the U.S. Air Force. For years, this work has been a source of immense pride for technicians at SFO, many of whom are U.S. military veterans. But United recently announced that it will end work for Teamsters on the C-17 Globemaster in 2027 after deciding not to extend the contract with engine provider Pratt & Whitney. This decision is the latest attempt by the carrier to outsource the Teamsters’ work and will impact over one hundred technicians at SFO who are currently working on F117 engines. “It is outrageous that United Airlines decided unilaterally not to extend this contract with Pratt & Whitney. This decision was made without consulting the Teamsters who are on the ground working on these engines, who would have raised objections to it. It’s unacceptable and unpatriotic,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. Enough is enough. It’s time for United to respect the Teamsters and stop outsourcing our work!
