What is IBLCE? IBLCE?, or the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners?, is an international credentialing body whose mission is to serve the global public interest by advancing professional practice in lactation consultation and support through credentialing. IBLCE established the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant? (IBCLC?) certification programme in 1985. As of 2022, there are nearly 36,000 IBCLCs in 131 countries. What is an IBCLC? International Board Certified Lactation Consultants function and contribute as members of the maternal-child health team. They provide care in a variety of settings, while making appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community support resources. Working together with families, policymakers, and society, IBCLCs provide expert breastfeeding and lactation care, promote changes that support breastfeeding and help reduce the risks of not breastfeeding. IBCLC Regina Roig-Romero MPH, IBCLC spoke with Gayle Guyardo on WFLA-TV News Channel 8 / WTTA-TV The CW Tampa Bay about Baby Cafés in the Tampa Bay area, community spots where families can access the gold standard of lactation care in the U.S. from an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Lactation experts offer families weekly one-on-one breastfeeding support at no charge, including coaching, education, and tailored counselling. ? “One of the joys of the profession is being able to help moms who come back with second and third babies,” Regina said. “You form a real bond with them when you’re helping them through this delicate time in their lives.” ? Less than one week until the September 30th deadline to recertify by CERPs! If you’re due to recertify this year, you need to take the CE Self-Assessment and focus at least 5 of your CERPs in each required area, in addition to completing basic life support education and 250 practice hours (whether paid or volunteer) of lactation consulting.
