We had insightful presentations, engaging panels and workshops, as well as interactive barcamp and poster sessions. A huge thanks to all the speakers and moderators for sharing valuable insights. Interesting take-aways: - ?? ???????????????????????????? in Germany are encouraged to use the BISKO standard for carbon accounting rather than the internationally accepted Greenhouse Gas Protocol for cities. So, they can′t even account for any negative emissions outside the LULUCF sector. - ?? Is the ?????????? ???????????????? ???? ?????????????? ?????? ???????????????? getting the 100 Mio Euro ticket which is the magnitude for project finance of big banks and/ or fonds? School and International Biochar Initiative Study Tour. ?? A global view for vines: Lorenzo Genesio from ??????-?????? showed that optimal areas of vine cultivation are shifting because number of cold days is decreasing globally, number of summer days >25°C are increasing with 50 days more in Europe annually. The impact of climate change can be seen in the ?????????????????? of vines, in the ??????????, the changing ?????????????? and amount of ?????????? in the vineyards. Generally, in majority of vine regions in Europe the quality of the wine is better as sugar is increased and acidity is lowered, but for Australian wines it's the opposite situation. ???? Italian biochar community seems to be characterised by the involvement of individual scientific institutions such as???????-?????? &?RE-CORD. A few companies present business cases, such as??????????? and?GazoTech, or measuring equipment suppliers like????????????and?Elementar, or laboratories like that of?????-????????,?or MRV provider?17tons. Production capacities of biochar for the local markets in Italy seem to be lower compared to European average. A challenge for mediterranean viticulture is the great variety of soil types in a small area that make e.g. biochar usage results hard to be compared. The prunings from vineyards are a huge opportunity but Ichar President?Alessandro Pozzi pointed out that production plants are not working on a farmer level. ??Here are some ???????????????? ???????????????? of one long-term (8 years) experiment in South Tyrol (Carlo Andreotti, Fadwa Benyahia, Maurizio Ventura) ??Only when there are droughts like summer 2023 the vine plants growing in soil with biochar applied (up to 50/ha) have better water household, ??soil C-content was increased and biochar was not degraded, ??Emissions of Greenhouse Gases from soil were minor due to biochar application, dependent on temperature and humidity of the soil ???? Great discovery is the ????????-???????? ?????????? ?????????????????????? ???????????????? LTEP-BIOCHAR https://lnkd.in/d48X2fTU including so far projects between 5-15 years duration, focus on yield increase, SOC content and soil biology.?! Scientists are encouraged to participate in the database ! ???? Outstanding Science: an impressive set of investigations was shown by family wine makers Domaine LAFAGE representative Antoine Lespès for region of Perpignan, France who cultivate on 400 hectares and over 6 terroirs. ??? Just returned from an inspiring few days in the heart of Tuscany for the International Biochar Initiative Study Tour, and what an experience it was! Exploring innovative biochar applications alongside passionate professionals from all over the world was a powerful reminder of how impactful our community can be. From hands-on site visits to shared meals overlooking vineyards, each moment sparked new ideas and connections.
