I’m thrilled to have been elected the Region 10 President for International Association of Emergency Managers USA. After being sworn in at the Annual Conference and starting the term with an excellent incoming Regional Board, I’m looking forward to moving the needle over the next two years!

Had an amazing time at the 72nd International Association of Emergency Managers Conference in Colorado Springs, CO! The event was an incredible opportunity to exchange ideas, gain insights into best practices, and engage in meaningful discussions with emergency management professionals from around the globe. The sessions and workshops were both inspiring and informative, showcasing the dedication and innovation within the field. A particularly special highlight was witnessing my former Pennsylvania College of Technology Professor receive the well-deserved Educator of the Year Award. It was an emotional and proud moment to see someone who has shaped my professional journey being recognized for their hard work, passion, and commitment to educating the next generation of emergency managers. Truly an unforgettable experience! #degreesthatwork

This week, I had the amazing opportunity to present at the IAEM EM Vision Talks! My session, "Bouncing from Basketball to Emergency Management," was all about the skills I mastered as an athlete and how they’ve shaped my professional journey. Strategic planning, leadership, adaptability, time management, resilience, and teamwork—are just some of lessons I learned on the court, which are just as important off the court. What made the experience even better was meeting so many inspiring people and hearing their stories. It’s always a great reminder of how much we can learn from each other when we come together. Huge thanks to IAEM for creating a space where we can share, connect, and grow. Stay tuned for the video of my session. It’s hard to put into words what #IAEM2024 was like this week. For me, I think it can be summed up into these four themes: friends, family, personal growth, and service to others. One post could never do all of this justice, so I plan to share highlights of these themes over the next week. For the first post, however, I will only focus on one thing. #IAEM2024 crushed EVERY. SINGLE. RECORD. in the association’s history. 2560+ registrants, 150 exhibitors, 80 AEM/CEMs walking across the stage to celebrate (with a couple hundred more receiving their certs this year), DAYS of pre-conference trainings/seminars, breakout sessions, keynotes, and over 800 members at the President’s Banquet. IAEM blew past every major milestone, making this conference one for the books. THANK YOU to everyone who attended… it was truly a team effort. Why are these milestones important to share? Please know this. IAEM is alive and well. And I am humbled and honored to have presided over the ceremonies this week. Next post: Friends. This week was an EPIC gathering of friends.
