Another demo in the books! Orange Sparkle Ball, Inc. was honored to present our Autonomous Robotic Pickup Platform, Penny Pickup, for Detroit Month of Design (DMOD) during the first week of festivities. As part of the first-ever Mobility track, it was an honor to showcase Penny Pickup, our Autonomous Robotic Pickup Platform, currently being piloted in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood. Through a live demo, we explored the potential of autonomous vehicles and highlighted the open innovation frameworks and human-centered design driving platform. Intermode is working with Orange Sparkle Ball, Inc. and Refraction AI to explore the use of autonomous robots for the pickup of household materials and proper end-of-life processing. On Monday, September 9th, we launched a pilot picking up plastic grocery bags for recycling, a material not currently accepted through curbside city recycling services. We are excited to introduce Arnold Kadiu to our panel of Detroit region innovators for the upcoming Detroit Month of Design panel, Designing an Autonomous Robotic Pickup Platform, hosted by Orange Sparkle Ball! Arnold is the founder and CEO of Intermode, a company specializing in building mobile robots for diverse applications, and has successfully deployed their robots in active commercial operations across several US cities. Prior to establishing Intermode, Kadiu graduated from the University of Michigan, where he dedicated his time to building solar cars. His professional journey continued at Ford Motor Company, where he initially engaged in research related to next-generation electric and autonomous vehicles, earning multiple patents for his groundbreaking work. Subsequently, Kadiu transitioned to Ford's mobility incubator, where he played a pivotal role in launching new programs and projects within the company. The panel will take place from 4-6pm on Monday, September 9th, and convene speakers across local government, technology, and community organizations; including Brittanie Dabney (CEO and Founder, Ecosphere Organics), Michael Hale Jr. (Project Manager, Office of Mobility Innovation at The City of Detroit), Bre Williamson (Board President, North Corktown Neighborhood Association (NCNA)), and Hannah Ranieri (Innovation Strategist, Orange Sparkle Ball, Inc.), as well as Arnold himself. Orange Sparkle Ball, Inc. is excited to announce our acceptance as an exhibitor at the 2024 Detroit Month of Design, and to the first ever Detroit Month of Design Mobility track! As the only UNESCO City of Design in the United States, Detroit is a global hub of culture and creativity. The Detroit Month of Design activates spaces all over the city with experiences ranging from exhibitions, installations, product launches, talks, tours, workshops and parties. Our event on September 7th will showcase the Autonomous Robotic Pickup Platform we have piloted in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit. Beyond showcasing the technology, we'll explore the open innovation frameworks and human-centered design methodologies driving its creation. Through a live demonstration, we'll immerse viewers in a future state where pickup is seamlessly scheduled as needed through autonomous vehicles, starting with robots. We won't just illustrate the future state; we'll also give an in-depth look at the strategic thought processes behind its realization. In addition to representing the Orange Sparkle Ball team, this demonstration will also feature autonomous technology and hardware by Refraction AI and Intermode.
