  • Congratulations to Nicole Keohen for winning the Above and Beyond Award with Northern Star Online. Nicole is an Educational Support Professional and was nominated by her colleagues for Achieving Academic Success, Cultivating Equity and Inclusion, and Promoting Social Emotional Learning. One of her colleagues said, "It's evident that Nicole creates a digital learning environment where every student feels valued. As the ESP supporting our students taking all their courses through NSO, she is the primary point of contact for students. She leads our Welcome Sessions, has developed a system of supportive outreach, and truly has a student-centered focus in all of her interactions. Her collaboration with her colleagues sets the example for others. Her thoughtful communication is a model for student-centered support, and she is able to hold students to high expectations with their academic progress, while simultaneously being a safe space for them to let us know when they are struggling." Nicole is above and beyond, and we are so proud of you. #287EdChat #AboveAndBeyond

  • Superintendent Marcy Doud supported Intermediate Leaders, Apprentices and Journeyworkers in providing testimony to the House Education Finance Committee regarding the continued funding for the four Intermediate Districts Teacher Apprenticeship (ITRAC) Program. Alvin Chambers and Superintendent Doud testified on behalf of District 287 and the three other intermediates. Kirsten Rasmussen, Journey Worker and staff were also present. Alvin Chambers, a District 287 ITRAC Apprentice shared a similar version of his Senate testimony and said “if it wasn’t for this program and financial support, it would have been challenging if not impossible to become a teacher." ITRAC has allowed his dream to become a reality. #287Edchat

Each year, we elevate our student and family voices by inviting them to share their story at a school board meeting. Alexia Poppy-Finley, West Education Center (WEC) Principal, introduced Neveah, a 9th grade student. Nevaeh started at WEC with a plan to stay in her Case Manager’s classroom collecting work from her classroom teachers to do in that space. As the year progressed, Nevaeh started building relationships with staff and on her own began to go to each classroom. Nevaeh developed relationships with many staff communicating and playing pranks on staff. "My learning has changed since coming to WEC. I go to more classes and I do my work. I like the teachers better. I get more help with the work and I like coming to school a little more, especially art," said Nevaeh. Nevaeh currently communicates her needs, asks for help and works on assignments with a variety of staff. Nevaeh didn’t speak directly to peers until this school year. She currently is communicating with and playfully bantering with peers. Watch the full student spotlight: https://lnkd.in/gqTRwXhy #287EdChat #StudentSpotlight

  • The Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) team hosted a community event, bringing together families and their children with hearing loss from the west metro to connect and share experiences. Students enjoyed time on the playground before gathering for a pizza dinner. The highlight of the evening was a panel featuring current students and a graduate from Edina High School’s DHH program, who shared their personal journeys and insights. #287EdChat #FamilyNight

  • Today, we’re celebrating our 287 Student Safety Coaches (SSC)! Since 2017, our SSCs have shifted from the traditional School Resource Officcer model to focus on building strong relationships with students, staying ahead of issues, and using restorative practices to help students bounce back after challenges. Their work helps prevent situations from escalating, ensuring a safer and more supportive environment for all. Huge shoutout to our incredible SSCs for all they do! #287EdChat #StudentSafety
