Only one week until IWBS 2024! Stop by the Intercon Booth (#629) to learn about our innovative new ESD-95 Escort Winch. Intercon worked closely with ABB to develop a modern escort winch that fully integrates with today's hybrid-electric and all-electric tugs to maximize performance and power capture. See you in New Orleans! #IWBS24 #workboatshow #maritimeindustry #marinewinches

Intercon is very pleased to introduce our new partnership with Automooring Solutions - AMS. Technological innovation in marine machinery moves at an incredible pace, however, some of the most common, inefficient, and dangerous operations are often overlooked. In 1985, Intercon revolutionized ocean towing with the introduction of Articulated Tug-Barges. Today, we partner with AMS to bring their revolutionary ship-to-ship mooring technology to North American marine operators. Visit us at IWBS, Booth 629 to learn more. #RemovetheRope #IWBS24 #workboatshow #maritimeindustry #ATB #StS

Three weeks until IWBS 2024 in New Orleans. Visit the Intercon booth to learn more about how ATBs separate a vessel's cargo system from its propulsion system so that both can be used most efficiently. From liquid cargo to containers to offshore wind turbines ATBs are changing the face of short-sea shipping. Intercon ATB Couplers - Stay Connected! #IWBS24 #workboatshow #maritimeindustry #ATB

At the highest level, all ships are a pairing of two components, a propulsion system and a cargo system. Articulated Tug-Barges (ATBs) separate those two systems, allowing operators to use each as efficiently as possible. Why waste fuel providing hotel power in port? Why leave a marine propulsion plant sitting idle at berth? Why squander highly skilled mariners' experience docked at the terminal? Why bet millions building ships that run on a green fuel that lacks port infrastructure today and may not become the fuel of the future tomorrow? Why live in fear of the EU ETS tax bill coming in 2025? Stop by the Intercon booth at SMM to learn how ATBs can provide transformational change in short-sea shipping logistics. A single solution for the major problems all Short Sea Shippers face today. A proven solution with a 40-year track record of safe and efficient operations. Intercon is happy to announce that we have received a contract award to build three shipsets of Generator Frames for the US Navy's new Columbia Class submarines. Generators provide the power to meet the electrical demand of onboard systems. Generator Frames serve as the structural housing to support and protect the generators while in operation. We are proud to support Curtiss-Wright Corporation, Northrop Grumman, and General Dynamics Electric Boat in supplying these mission-critical components to the submariners of the US Navy. Much has been written recently about the decline of US commercial and military shipbuilding. Since 1958, Intercon has built equipment for workboats, coastal transport vessels, and military vessels operating in domestic and international markets. We perform this work on 65 acres of land on the banks of the Missouri River overlooking the City of Kansas City, MO. From this unlikely outpost, we proudly carry on the tradition of shipbuilding in the United States. Contact Intercontinental Engineering-Manufacturing Corporation for TechPub-248/278 qualified Fabrication, TechPub-271 qualified NDT, and ISO 9001:2015 certified Heavy Machining of components up to 200,000lbs.

Intercon is pleased to introduce the ESD-95 Single Drum Escort Winch. The ESD-95 is designed for tugs that generate up to 95 tonnes of indirect steering and braking force during ship escorting service. Every marine winch that Intercon designs is informed by more than 65 years of winch design, manufacturing, operations, and field support experience. The design process for the ESD-95 drew on that experience, but always with an eye on recent technological advances in electric motors, VFDs, and vessel electrification. ?Foremost among the design objectives: - Simplify the mechanical design to reduce the number of moving parts as compared to competing escort winches - Fully leverage VFD and electric motor advances of the last 10 years, particularly the ABB Smart Winch drive-integrated control software - Where possible, integrate directly into the DC bus of electric and hybrid-electric tugs to reduce cost and maximize power regeneration - Achieve the above goals to design a winch that costs 20% less than competing products of similar capability The ESD-95 meets all of our stated objectives. This effort would not have been possible without extraordinary support from ABB for motor and VFD selection, important insights from Robert Allan Ltd. into escort tug design and winch performance requirements, and operational feedback from countless customers. They all have our most sincere thanks. Please contact Juan Mendez Jr. or Mike McCoy for more information about the ESD-95, as well as the other winches under development in this product family.
