What an action-packed few days in the Nordics and Baltics for our now annual trip to Slush to promote Trade & Invest Wales or the "Nearest faraway place" as our friends in Epicenter Helsinki coined us. The event certainly lived up to its name: We got sunshine, blizzards and the aforementioned in between. Life is so much easier when you surround yourself with good people and we had some of the best tech folk in Wales on hand to prove the Welsh tech ecosystem can walk the walk. I often get asked about what I get up to in my job – well last month was all about food & drink, representing Welsh government and Wales’ food & drink sector at SIAL Paris with colleagues Shona Hutchinson and James Perry from the Bwyd a Diod Cymru | Food and Drink Wales. As a farmer's daughter, the week felt a tad more special ! Wales is a country with a rich culinary heritage with sustainability and quality are at its core. Wales proudly holds 20 PGI products incl. Single Malt Welsh Whisky, Anglesey Sea Salt PDO, PGI Welsh Lamb, PGI Welsh Beef and Welsh Leeks PGI. We're delighted to continue sharing these products with our friends across the Channel and beyond.??The European Union remains the largest market for Welsh produce, accounting for 75% of the total value of Welsh Food & Drink exports. France, in particular, stands out as the highest-value destination for Welsh exports, with an impressive ￡155 million in trade, and strengthening the deep cultural and trade ties between our nations.? Co-hosting a reception on the Wales stand with Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales chair Catherine Smith – a chance to showcase PGI products across Welsh lamb, beef, and other premium products to international buyers and partners all prepared by the wonderful chef Elwen Roberts. ?? Promoting BlasCymru/TasteWales 2025, Wales’ flagship international food and drink event Shona Hutchinson David Edwards ??? Attending the British Meat Dinner, a fantastic opportunity to connect with exporters in the meat industry shipping Welsh red meat to tables across the world Severine Roberts Jason Craig Laura Pickup (Dodds) ?? Attending the British Embassy Paris Four Nations - Festival of Flavours Reception showcasing a wide selection of UK companies to promote the British food and drink to buyers from across the world Sophie de Bodisco Hervé Grella Lauren Belcher ?? Engaging with numerous Welsh and French companies and stakeholders across many sub sectors looking at investment and export opportunities for the Welsh economy. ?? Without doubt, this week's Celtic Sea Power's FLOW Summit 2024, held at Eden Project, was a huge success! ?? Key from our perspective was the significant international attendance, with delegates from across the globe travelling to Cornwall to get an inside view about Celtic Sea FLOW. Few regions compare globally with the skills, expertise, and infrastructure that Cornwall offers for this new and exciting industry. With extensive transferable engineering and technical expertise, and the opportunity to train new talent and to upskill, Cornwall has an abundance of capability and a ready-made supply chain just waiting to gear up for a future full of exciting FLOW projects. Yesterday's event was refreshing, addressing challenges and solutions, from development to delivery. Importantly, it also touched on how FLOW has a major part to play in driving social, economic and environmental benefits for Cornwall, its businesses and its people. ?? The first in the autumn season of FLOW events that the team from Cornwall Trade and Investment (CTI) will be attending, we next move on to Floating Offshore Wind 2024 in Aberdeen, which runs from 9th-10th October.
