Today at #COP29, during the panel “The Amazon We Seek: Balancing Sustainability and Inclusion in the World’s Largest Tropical Forest”, Luiz Gabriel Todt de Azevedo, our Chief Strategy Officer, shared his insights on the importance of strategic financing that fosters economic growth while preserving the environment. By 2030, the IDB aims to reach 50% in green and #climatefinance, while BID Invest projects 60%, including mobilized private capital, to amplify climate action in the region. At #COP29, Executive Vice President, Jordan Schwartz, participated in an event along with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and The World Bank President, Ajay Banga, on the Climate Investment Fund's (CIF) Capital Markets Mechanism’s (CCMM) forthcoming bond listing on the LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group). As the first multilateral climate fund to access capital markets, the CCMM is positioned to advance climate action by mobilizing new resources. ? Over the past 13 years, we have partnered with the CIF to implement more than 170 projects across renewable energy, resilience, forestry, and clean technology. We are committed to increasing capital flows for development challenges, including disaster response and climate preparedness, as well as committing to making real change on the ground by: ? Innovating with capital market instruments, such as debt-for-resilience swaps and securitizing the IDB Invest’s portfolios. ? Ensuring that resources are effectively executed through strong policy commitments, verifiable investments, and active MDB engagement. ------------------------------------- En #COP29, el vicepresidente ejecutivo, Jordan Schwartz, participó en un evento junto con el primer ministro del Reino Unido, Keir Starmer, y el presidente del Banco Mundial, Ajay Banga, sobre la próxima emisión de bonos del Mecanismo de Mercados de Capitales del Fondo de Inversión Climática (CIF) en la Bolsa de Valores de Londres (LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group). Dicho mecanismo, al ser el primer fondo climático multilateral en acceder a los mercados de capitales, está posicionado para avanzar en la acción climática movilizando nuevos recursos. ? En los últimos 13 a?os, hemos colaborado con el CIF para implementar más de 170 proyectos en energía renovable, resiliencia, silvicultura y tecnología limpia. Estamos comprometidos a aumentar los flujos de capital para afrontar desafíos de desarrollo, que incluyen la respuesta ante desastres y la preparación climática, además de realizar cambios tangibles en el terreno mediante: ? La innovación en instrumentos del mercado de capitales, como los canjes de deuda por resiliencia y la titulización de las carteras de IDB Invest. ? La ejecución efectiva de los recursos a través de compromisos políticos sólidos, inversiones verificables y una participación activa de los bancos multilaterales de desarrollo.

?? El 8 y 9 de octubre en Quito, Ecuador, llevamos a cabo el Diálogo Regional de Políticas de Transporte del BID, ‘Conectando vidas: construyendo un nuevo paradigma para el transporte’. Reunimos a autoridades de 17 países, expertos y representantes del BID para discutir cómo poner a las personas al centro del transporte, ante el triple desafío de reducir la pobreza y la desigualdad, mitigar el cambio climático y aumentar el desarrollo regional sostenible. Reflexionamos sobre cómo el transporte es clave para la inclusión y sostenibilidad en América Latina y el Caribe. No sólo representa la movilidad sino el acceso a bienes y servicios básicos, que hoy día hasta 30% de la población rural no tiene, a la vez que representa 40% de las emisiones de CO2 en la región. Como ejemplo exitoso que atiende estos desafíos, visitamos el Metro de Quito, un modelo de transporte eficiente y sostenible que transporta y mejora la calidad de vida de miles de personas diariamente.
