  • Submittals, Labor Rates, and That Never-Ending Guesswork ?? Ever feel like you’re flying blind on labor rates? Submittals say one thing. The crew’s pay says another. And your production assumptions? Well... sometimes they’re just that—assumptions. We’ve been chatting with a few contractors who: Use “piece labor” but don’t know how to back into real man-hour rates Get change orders rejected because submittals and install logic don’t align Feel like production numbers are always either too high or too low If you’re unfamiliar with how to build or validate production rates, this might be right up your alley. We’re thinking of hosting a casual group session—just open conversation, helpful tools, and practical examples. Just curious: ?? Would you or someone on your team find that type of session useful? If not, no worries. If yes, feel free to message us—we’ll keep you in the loop. ?? Free tutorial if you want a preview: https://lnkd.in/gqK3SVbb ?? Or stop by here anytime: https://lnkd.in/gmgpbSjz #ConstructionEstimating #Submittals #LaborRates #PieceWork #ProductionRates #DrywallContractors #FramingContractors

  • ?Leadership Void in Commercial Construction The leadership gap is growing. In 2024, 83% of firms had trouble hiring superintendents, and 81% couldn’t find experienced PMs or supervisors (NCCER). Now in 2025, it’s worse. The veterans are retiring—and the successors aren’t trained. Let’s develop: Mentorship pipelines Real-world estimating + project management training Clear career ladders to keep younger talent from bailing ?? Start with training that actually explains the essentials: ? Planswift ? Front-end docs ? Scopes & labor formulas ?? Free tutorials: https://lnkd.in/gqK3SVbb ?? • The 2025 Construction Workforce Challenge The construction industry is facing a serious 2025 challenge: a skilled labor shortfall. According to ABC, the U.S. must attract 439,000 new construction workers this year just to meet demand. This shortage is stalling timelines, raising costs, and overloading current crews. Let’s fix it by: ?? Investing in training and field mentorship ?? Leveraging tech like PlanSwift and digital estimating tools ?? Making trades careers attractive again—especially for the next generation This industry doesn’t have a labor problem—it has a preparedness problem. ?? Learn how to build profitable estimates, do digital takeoffs, and break down scopes: https://lnkd.in/gqK3SVbb ?? • “Profit Fade” Is Real… and It's Preventable 30% of commercial contractors regularly see profits drop below their estimates. Not because they didn’t work hard. Because the estimate was wrong to begin with. ?? One bad estimate can wipe out months of progress. ?? Two or three? It could cost your company. It’s not always a math problem. It’s a skills gap problem. When estimators are learning on the fly or don’t understand front-end docs, scope creep, or labor productivity—profits suffer. ?? Want to learn the 4 key estimating skills that protect your bottom line? ? Digital takeoffs ? Project type strategy ? Front-end doc review ? Accurate labor & material breakdowns ?? • Submittals by the Numbers 70% of construction rework is caused by design and data errors. (Source: Construction Industry Institute) That includes submittals—especially when installers assume “it’s just drywall” or “close enough.” ?? One wrong insulation type ?? One unapproved product ?? One forgotten fire rating submittal = Thousands in lost labor, schedule delays, and withheld payments ?? Before you build, submit: ? Product data sheets ? Shop drawings ? Finish and fire ratings ? Substitution requests (if needed) ?? Have you seen rework caused by missing submittals? What happened? ?? • The “I Think We’re Okay” Trap I asked a drywall contractor last week: “How’s the job going?” They said, “I think we’re okay—we’ve been pretty busy.” That’s the trap. Being busy ≠ being profitable. ?? 91.5% of construction projects go over budget or schedule. And most contractors don’t realize it until it’s over. (Source: strategy-business.com) We're thinking about organizing a 3-hour live group session for drywall pros to stop guessing and start tracking. You’ll learn: ?? How to break your scope into real-time cost codes ?? How to turn estimated dollars into crew days ?? How others in the industry are keeping their margins in check ?? You’ll also get this free tool to follow along: https://lnkd.in/gSJ5HWuY Would this session help you or your team? • He Was 80% Through the Budget—and Only Halfway Done One drywall estimator I spoke with recently was watching a large job go sideways. Labor was flying. Crews were working—but they were spending hours like water. Halfway through the scope, they’d already burned 80% of the budgeted labor hours. They had no job costing system in place. No tracking by scope. No man-day goals. ?? By the time they realized it, they were in the red. That job finished $18,000 short of their target margin. That estimator said, “I wasn’t being lazy—I just never learned how to track it.” That’s who we’re thinking about helping. We’re considering a 3-hour group session for drywall contractors and estimators to: ?? Break down budgets by task (framing, hanging, finishing) ?? Convert labor dollars into trackable crew days ?? Spot red flags before it’s too late ?? Here’s the tool we’ll use: https://lnkd.in/gSJ5HWuY Would you want in? We’re just tallying interest right now. Drop “Interested” below #DrywallBusiness #FieldToFinance #ConstructionProfit #TrackYourCosts

  • Not All Estimators Are Created Equal – Be Critical When Hiring Remotely ?? Think all estimators bring the same value? Think again. ?? When hiring a remote estimator, be critical of their experience. Many claim they can "do takeoffs", but is that enough? Here’s the difference between an estimator who ONLY does takeoffs vs. an estimator with real metal framing & drywall project experience: The “Takeoff-Only” Estimator ?? Can count sheets, studs, and square footage ?? Understands basic material quantities ?? Relies solely on software (On-Screen Takeoff, Planswift) ?? Often lacks real-world installation knowledge ?? Struggles with job-specific challenges like sequencing, waste factors, or installation logistics ?? This means you get a spreadsheet of numbers—but are they the RIGHT numbers? ??

  • Ever Get That Call? “Hey, your material wasn’t approved. You’ll need to rip it out.” That’s the sound of profit walking off your jobsite. ?? Submittals aren’t just paperwork. They protect your labor, your payment, and your schedule. Mess it up and you could be: ? Reinstalling finished work ? Eating material costs ? Arguing with the GC or owner It’s preventable: ? Partner early with your supplier ? Match your material to the specs ? Get it approved before you install Have you been there? What happened? ?? ?? Grab these free estimating tools: ?? • Real Talk—Do You Know Where Your Drywall Jobs Lose Money? Most drywall contractors track the job by gut feel or after the fact—and that’s when the surprises hit. ?? A 2023 industry survey found that job costing errors and decentralized data are among the top reasons projects go over budget. That means spreadsheets, texts, memory… not enough. We’re thinking about running a free 3-hour online session to help drywall estimators and project managers: 1.Break down labor by activity (framing, hanging, finishing, etc.) 2. Understand how to price labor by skill level (Foreman vs. Journeyman) Set up job cost tracking you can actually use with your crews You’ll also get access to our free drywall estimator tool: ?? https://lnkd.in/gSJ5HWuY What do you think—should we do it? Would you show up? Let us know below or send a DM. No fluff—just practical stuff that keeps your margins intact. #DrywallEstimators #TrackYourCosts #JobCosting #ConstructionTraining
