Tip for Best Shipping Practices When tendering freight to a driver, make certain that the driver is keeping tally of what is being loaded into his truck.?Always have the drivers sign for individual piece count when feasible.?Do not allow the driver to sign SLC “Shipper Load and Count” unless he is signing for a sealed load.?Do not allow the carrier to sign for: a.????STC (said to contain) – In this case, drivers will not accept responsibility for any number of pieces.?In turn, they are only accounting for the number pallets “said to contain” a certain number of pieces.?The driver may not have been able to physically count for individual pieces.?But unless the driver takes responsibility for the number of pieces he is picking up, it will be difficult to establish that the carrier is liable for any missing pieces. b.????SWP (shrink wrap pallet) – In this case, a driver is noting to pick up a shrink wrapped pallet with no reference to a piece count.?Should the driver pick up 1 swp and deliver 1 swp, the carrier will most likely not be found liable for any missing product within the pallet.
