Please consider supporting IAN's work for this Giving Tuesday. Our team has traveled all over the world to talk to communities about their environmental concerns. We integrate social and economic data with environmental monitoring to form a full picture of what's happening in an ecosystem. Your support can help us empower global communities to enact positive change. Use the "Donate" button at?the top of the page at ian.umces.edu?to contribute. We are scientists working to solve not just study environmental problems.
关于我们
The Integration and Application Network (IAN), is a dedicated group of scientists intent on solving, not just studying environmental problems. IAN is an initiative of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. IAN's mission is to inspire, manage, and produce timely syntheses and assessments on key environmental issues, with a special emphasis on Chesapeake Bay and its watershed.

Our 2024 Chesapeake Bay and Watershed Report Card introduces the need to develop a man-made debris indicator, inspired by research from the Chesapeake Bay Plastic Survey by Ocean Research Project. Man-made debris can be found in various locations that can be measured, monitored, and reported in future report cards. These pollutants come in many forms and sizes, from the tiniest microplastics to cigarette butts and bottle caps to large fishing nets and boats. To account for these variations, a man-made debris indicator will need to include different categories of debris. To learn more, check out the 2024 Chesapeake Bay and Watershed Report Card and the accompanying newsletter about the plastic survey: https://lnkd.in/dGkqBMpZ https://lnkd.in/d5jTRNAe #ecoreportcard #scicomm #sciencecommunication #chesapeakebay #microplastics #plasticresearch

In this year’s Chesapeake Bay Report Card, we highlighted the Eastern Shore sub-watersheds and the influence of agricultural land use on the socio-environmental health of the region. The region received the lowest ecological and societal scores for the past two years. Put my "art skills" to the test, together with Keriin Katsaros at the workshop about better science communication of the UMCES Integration & Application Network and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science
How we communicate about science is vital to helping people understand the world around them and building trust in a sustainable future. This afternoon, the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science hosted an interactive, hands-on workshop at #SRISSD2024, helping participants learn best practices of science communication through scientific storytelling tactics and engaging games. In “Conceptionary” workshop, attendees put their art skills to the test, competing in teams to communicate complex climate topics on paper through creative drawings. #SustainableAction Future Earth Belmont Forum Aalto University University of Helsinki

At the SRI2024 congress we had the Oceans I end-term meeting. This was a successful Collaborative Research Action (CRA) call, focused on achieving ocean sustainability. Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 14, this call fostered global partnerships to address critical issues like equitable ocean use and the mitigation of global change impacts. The CRA supported projects aimed to make significant contributions towards a healthier and more sustainable ocean for future generations. #SRISSD2024 #TheBelmontForum #TheOceanDecade #TransdisciplinaryResearch #Sustainability
