In an interview recently aired by NBC affiliate KXAN in Austin, Integra President Dr. John Griffin sat down with Sara AL-Shaikh to discuss CareWatch, Integra’s tool that allows families to find high-quality skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). Dr. Griffin also discussed his recent paper which provides analytical underpinnings to the CareWatch site, “Overbilling and Killing? An Examination of the Skilled Nursing Industry.” Among key findings were that some facilities regularly upcode patient diagnoses, claiming that they have nonexistent illnesses to maximize profits. Furthermore, he and his co-author Dr. Alex Priest find that facilities engaging in upcoding are more likely to provide a lower level of care, leading to documented preventable illnesses. Following the paper’s release, Integra released CareWatch, a free online tool that allows the public to locate a high quality SNF for their family. Per Dr. Griffin, this is “a way to distill our 90 page paper and get it out there to the public so that the public can use this information.” Read “Overbilling and Killing” here: https://lnkd.in/g2NwzxXU Read the full article KXAN here: https://lnkd.in/gXvmSHan Explore CareWatch here: care.watch Watch the segment on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gcg8YFnV

As law enforcement agencies in Arizona report of a surge of Bitcoin ATM scams, the Arizona State Legislature is considering new regulations on Bitcoin ATMs to help combat fraud. The proposed bill would impose daily deposit limits and require transparent fee disclosures. Dr. John M. Griffin discussed this issue with KOLD News on Tuesday, highlighting how these Bitcoin ATMs enable scammers to bypass the security measures used in traditional banking. A big thank you to Amy Cutler and Cody Lillich for covering this important topic!
