Finally rested up after an amazing few days in NOLA for AASA, The School Superintendents Association Conference and wow, it felt like one big family reunion! Seeing so many familiar faces, meeting new people, and finally getting to be in person with my new Instructional Empowerment team was truly special. I attended so many thought-provoking sessions, each bringing fresh ideas and unique perspectives. But one thing was clear, we’re all here for the same reason: we care deeply about kids and the future of education. One session that really stuck with me was "Reclaiming the Positive Narrative to Protect Good Teaching" with Luvelle Brown, Julie A. Vitale, Ph.D., Scott Menzel, Mark Bedell Ed.D. Their message about standing strong in the face of today’s challenges in public education was powerful and courageous. As educators, we have to reclaim the narrative and advocate for what’s right, for our students, our teachers, and our communities. A phrase I heard over and over again was student agency, which is at the heart of what we do at Instructional Empowerment. We’re helping students take ownership of their learning and rediscover a love for school, because when kids feel empowered, everything changes.
