Karina Ayala-Bermejo, President and CEO of Instituto del Progreso Latino joined a coalition of national and community leaders from across the Latino community on Capitol Hill to demand accountability and swift congressional action in response to the Trump administration’s harmful policies. We must continue to call on federal policymakers to challenge these actions as they continue to negatively impact our communities. “This unfair treatment has resulted in fear, which has negatively impacted attendance in our schools, diminished our efforts to combat food insecurity and attempted to create barriers to our citizenship program. This dangerous rhetoric and divisive narrative only increases hate crimes, and creates division in our community and fear for our families. We are the economic fuel that strengthens our nation, and it is time our country acknowledges this.” – Karina Ayala-Bermejo, President and CEO of Instituto del Progreso Latino Read more here: Latino Leaders Unite on Capitol Hill and Demand Accountability from the Trump Administration: https://shorturl.at/CJq5l

To cap off our Changemakers Summit this week, UnidosUS Affiliates met with their Congressional Representatives to elevate the impact from the current administration’s harmful policies on the Latino communities they serve. Quickly followed by a joint press conference with President and CEOs from UnidosUS (@WeAreUnidosUS), Hispanic Federation, League of United Latin American Citizens, Mi Familia Vota, Instituto del Progreso Latino, and Latino Victory unified in their message that the anti-immigrant and anti-DEI attacks do not address our broken immigration system and needlessly harm the fabric of our country. Undocumented workers account for 22% of all U.S. agriculture jobs, 15% of all construction jobs and 8% of all manufacturing jobs. The immigrant story is the American story and plans for mass deportations will only fuel an increase in food prices and gravely impact the economy for all Americans.

When I was a student, I struggled to find the right resources to navigate my legal status. If I had known then what I know now, I would have been better prepared for success. That’s why this event matters. The Dreamer Resource Fair is built by Dreamers, for Dreamers—a space dedicated to connecting undocumented students and professionals with the tools, support, and networks needed to thrive. Whether or not you have DACA, this event is for you. If you need resources or know someone who does, join us. A huge thank you to our partners for making this possible!
