For this year's #DemocracyDay, INN offered some of the participating newsrooms an extra incentive from NewsMatch: a fundraising match of $500. The 47 participating INN newsrooms generated more than $57,000 in individual donations. Read more about this campaign here:

Is your newsroom prepared to cover a #disaster or emergency? I'll be sharing some useful tips, tools, and resources on October 17 at 9 am PT to help journalists and newsroom leaders share essential information with their local communities before, during, and after disasters, whether it's a wildfire, flood, or industrial accident. This is specifically focused on local and underserved communities, and is drawn from conversations with independent journalists and staff from LION: Local Independent Online News Publishers, Institute for Nonprofit News members over the last year. INN's Rural News Network led the initiative for the formation of "Bridging Access," an editorial collaboration between six nonprofit newsrooms to address the pressing healthcare challenges facing rural and marginalized communities across the United States. The newsrooms involved in "Bridging Access" are The Associated Press, California Health Report, Capital B, Cardinal News, CatchLight?and Enlace Latino NC. Learn more:
