On October 16, the Turrell Fund attended the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership Annual Servant-Leader Hall of Fame Reception at Seton Hall University with Alysia Souder from INSTITUTE OF MUSIC FOR CHILDREN INC and Nayibe Capellan from Programs for Parents, Inc. The Institute and its families will recognize the role these individuals have played in bringing The Institute of Music for Children's Capital Expansion to fruition. The event will feature Institute students and faculty performances, a delicious meal and open bar, and a word from Institute graduates. ? The Institute’s $15 million expansion plan will enable the Institute to build a state-of-the-art facility with dedicated dance, acting, band and visual arts studios, two piano labs, four practice rooms and a professional recording studio. ? In my 20+ years of working with nonprofits and now my time in philanthropy, I've come across a lot of organizations and the INSTITUTE OF MUSIC FOR CHILDREN INC stands out as a gem among them all. Not only is IMC doing amazing work as a multi-disciplinary arts organization, but they are filling a major gap by building community and serving families in the greater Elizabeth area. My hometown, Elizabeth, is the 4th?largest city in NJ (behind Newark, JC, and Paterson), yet there are only a handful of nonprofits in the whole city; even fewer arts organizations. As a major BIPOC/immigrant-serving and -led organization, IMC is that highly impactful community-rooted organization we all want to support. In 2023, we hosted a successful Cherish the Arts Gala and this year we are hosting it again. The 2024 theme is "It takes a village" - and it does! Please join me in making 2024 a huge success.
