Brazil’s public transport needs a regulatory overhaul for a cleaner, more efficient future. A recent study from @ITDPBRASIL calls for stronger contracts, open data, and transparency to cut costs and improve reliability. 关于我们
Founded in 1985, the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) has become a leading organization in promoting environmentally sustainable and equitable transportation policies and projects worldwide. ITDP was created by sustainable transport advocates in the U.S. to counteract the export to developing countries of costly and environmentally damaging models of dependence on the private automobile. ITDP focuses on working with municipalities and non-governmental organizations in developing countries to implement projects that show how air pollution, carbon emissions, traffic congestion and accidents can be reduced, or how the basic mobility of the poor can be improved. ITDP primarily focuses on work in the following program areas: * Developing high-quality, low-cost mass transit * Planning and advocacy for cycling and walking * Strengthening the bicycle and rickshaw industries * Revitalizing city centers * Bridging distances: transport for healthcare * Managing traffic demand * Building institutional capacity to plan for and implement sustainable low-carbon transportation * Developing financing tools and incentives to improve transportation system performance and cut GHGs Our projects build local knowledge and skills while generating greater public awareness of viable sustainable transport solutions. They are also used to leverage additional resources from international development institutions, inspire these institutions to change their own priorities, encourage private sector participation, and encourage more participatory and transparent decision-making. ITDP is supported by a wide array of partners, working most closely with Climate Works and the Clinton Climate Initiative.

As urban populations grow, local governments must increase investments into active mobility infrastructure to ensure jobs, schools, healthcare, and other destinations are made accessible to all, while also reducing carbon emissions.? ? With the newly released "Cost-Benefit Scoping Tool for Cycling Infrastructure," developed by ITDP and our partners at The World Bank, investors, as well as national and city governments, can evaluate costs and the full range of benefits offered by investments in #cycling. ? ? The Cost-Benefit Scoping Tool for Cycling Infrastructure assesses the economic feasibility of a #cycle lane network with few data inputs. This enables comparison with other potential transport investments and returns.? ? The tool allows cities to make informed decisions for the future, provides a comprehensive estimate of benefits, and reduces risk for investors interested in supporting active mobility projects at-scale.? ? Current research into urban #transport predicts that by 2050, cities will experience 40% less travel by walking, cycling, and urban transport, leading to a massive increase in carbon emissions.? ? Investing in #cycling infrastructure today will not only decrease emissions, but will also result in improved air quality, lower healthcare costs, reduced congestion, safer streets, and more vibrant communities. Available for use tomorrow!

We had an incredible time at #WUF hosting different teams and organisations in Cairo. ITDP has been working in Cairo to implement the bikeshare system, supporting the implementation of bike lanes in down town Cairo and planning for the BRT system. In addition the team recently worked on an a national NMT Strategy to support walking and cycling in the city. Our team participated in various sessions promoting non-motorises transport infrastructure while also highlighting key examples from around the world. ITDP is also working in Alexandria to promote cycling and car-free zones. Sanofi UN Environment Programme UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme)
