This week ISI marks Invasive Species Awareness Week. #InvSpWk. Invasive species include nonindigenous or non-native flora, fauna, insects, and aquatic life that adversely affect the habitats or bioregions they invade. They may dominate the new region — forcing out existing species by outcompeting native species for nutrients, light, physical space, water, or food. Two primary counter-measures are: protecting existing healthy habitats from disturbance, and avoiding the introduction of invasive species. In the Envision framework, the credit of reference is NW3.4 Control Invasive Species. It is related to NW1.1 Preserve Sites of High Ecological Value and NW3.1 Enhance Functional Habitats.

ISI catalyzes systemic change in civil infrastructure, with the Envision sustainability framework as the vehicle.
关于我们
ISI advances sustainable civil infrastructure using Envision? — through education, training and third-party project verification. The Envision Sustainability Framework and rating system is deployed by people and projects throughout North America and internationally and is applicable to every type of civil infrastructure: water, transportation, energy, waste, land/environmental, and more. OUR HISTORY: Based in Washington, DC, ISI was established in 2010 by the three largest engineering associations — the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), and the American Public Works Association (APWA). ISI collaborated with the Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design to develop Envision.

The Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) ESWcon25 is coming up March 27-30, and ticket sales have now been extended until Sunday March 2! ?? This year's conference is being designed for students and largely by students at The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, and we're proud to be sponsoring the two-day Design Challenge in which teams will work together to design solutions to a technical sustainability problem before presenting their ideas to a panel of judges. You can also stop by and see us at the Career and Opportunities Fair on Friday, March 28! Although the conference is primarily designed for ESW student members and alumni, it's open to other college students and professionals, too! ?? Shout out to Guatemala Green Building Council (GGBC)! Earlier this month, GGBC, our partner in Guatemala, hosted back-to-back Envision events! First was a Green Power Breakfast for attendees to learn more about sustainable and resilient infrastructure and the Envision framework. The following day offered an Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) training workshop, led by Cristina Contreras Casado, for participants to prepare for the ENV SP credentialing exam. Both events were fully booked, with the Green Power Breakfast attracting more than 100 local professionals and the workshop preparing dozens of new ENV SPs! We're proud to be partnered with GGBC to promote more sustainable development in Guatemala and the Latin America region! #sustainableinfrastructure #Envision #ENVSP #sustainabledevelopment #sustainablecommunities #sustainabilityleadership

Congratulations to Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources and Freese and Nichols on successfully completing the post-construction review stage for the Eastern Regional Infrastructure Project, which expanded water, sewer, and trail infrastructure to support the county’s ongoing and anticipated growth. This is the final step in the Envision verification process and it confirmed the Envision Silver Award the project earned last October! Last month, we hosted a "Train the Trainer" workshop to usher in a new group of approved Envision Trainers! ?? Participants tuned in to this four-day live virtual workshop from all over the world – including the United States, Canada, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia! These individuals are now equipped to plan and deliver Envision workshops (including ENV SP training and credential maintenance offerings) for their own communities and networks. As dedicated Envision advocates, these trainers help to expand knowledge and influence of the Envision framework to ultimately drive more equitable and sustainable infrastructure around the globe. Thank you to our very own Leslie Brunell, PhD, PE, F.ASCE, ENV SP and Ted Marcelo for leading this new group of Envision Trainers, and a special thank to our guest speakers for sharing their time, expertise, and insights: Robert Beinstein, PE, ENV SP, Michael F. Bloom, PE, AICP, ENV SP, Quin MacKenzie, Qian (pronounced like “Chen”) Zhang, PE, PMP, Env SP, LEED GA, MS, and Debra Anaya! ?? In honor of our month recognizing the importance of renewing our water and wastewater assets, we highlight one of our longtime organizational members, Hazen and Sawyer. Since 1951, Hazen and Sawyer has focused on two critical activities – helping clients provide safe drinking water to their customers and controlling water pollution and its effects on the environment. Hazen and Sawyer has dozens of ENV SPs on staff and has guided a variety of projects to achieve Envision Awards, including two more last year! These projects span pump station upgrades like the Cocoplum 1 Pump Station in Coral Gables, Florida, the design and delivery of new drinking water treatment facilities like the Saco River Water Treatment Plant in Biddeford, Maine, and joint wastewater and park projects such as the Nashville Government West Park Equalization Facility Project in Nashville, Tennessee.
