The global membership association for science and mindfulness in business, education, and governmental organizations.

关于我们

IOSM is a non-profit association of human capital and operating leaders in business, healthcare, education, and government, with a mission to bring science-based mindfulness into the workplace. Thirty years of neuroscience research, and a decade of experience in elite organizations, including the U.S. Olympics and U.S. Special Forces — and early adopting companies, including Google, Apple, Aetna, General Mills and SAP — have proven mindfulness to be an effective intervention for health and wellness, mental strength and emotional intelligence But barriers remain… Our objectives are to define professional standards, surface best practices, design certifications and develop effective metrics and analytics for mindfulness in the enterprise. Free Community Membership is open to everyone interested advancing the practice of science-based, performance-focused, organizational mindfulness.

  • Surprisingly, stress and burnout have not subsided in the post-pandemic era. In fact, reports show they’re continuing to rise to new record levels. The good news is that we’ve come through a period of massive personal and societal upheaval that has focused our resources, delivered new science, and surfaced new solutions for preventing and overcoming it. Stress and anxiety are not only unpleasant and uncomfortable; they steadily erode our physical, mental, and emotional capabilities. They are crippling our leaders, impairing our teams, and leading to burnout. The inevitable workplace results are toxicity, demotivation, disengagement, absenteeism, and turnover. When society itself is pervaded with overwhelm and conflict, the skills to manage our own stress, anxiety, and burnout become critical performance capabilities - and essential work skills. How can we lead effectively when we’re worried or anxious? How can we do our best work if we’re distracted or overwhelmed? How can we attract and serve clients or guarantee high-quality goods and services if we’re exhausted or burned out? We hope you can join us for our new three-hour workshop called New Science and Solutions for Stress, Anxiety, and Burnout. It is a comprehensive rollup of the most recent research and the most effective, science-confirmed solutions for clearing the mind, quieting the brain, and calming the body. The workshop includes a companion learning portal with self-paced materials, an expanded view of key topics, a curated series of breathwork, mindfulness, additional neural training resources - and an optional deeper dive into journaled research, supporting articles, and expert videos. Learn the most effective methods for managing your own stress: bit.ly/eb-stress Bring these powerful capabilities to your team: bit.ly/wix-stress-team P.S. We’ve opened the new Organizational Mindfulness Network to our students, alumni, and community members - and are NOW beginning to invite our LinkedIn friends. The OM Network is the first global community at the convergence of science, mindfulness, and the future of work. • Organizational Mindfulness is a new and unique category of mindfulness-based intervention (MBI). Just as MBSR was created to reduce stress and MBCT as a toolset for cognitive behavioral therapy, Organizational Mindfulness was created to scale individual and organizational performance. Stress reduction is a fundamental outcome of any mindfulness practice, whether formal or in-the-moment. However, mindfulness can train the brain to do much more than calm the body. It comprises a series of neural procedures that can develop an array of essential mental and emotional skills. These include self-and-situational awareness, attention control and concentration, habit formation and change, mental agility and adaptability, social and emotional intelligence, mental fitness, resilience, and more. Learning to develop and strengthen these skills represents a powerful inflection point for personal, leadership, and workforce development. Do you want greater mental clarity, sharper focus, a clear purpose, a growth mindset, deeper engagement, and stronger, more positive relationships? These are all trainable neural skills, yet none are taught systematically or scientifically in school. Organizational Mindfulness is operationalizing new science by applying mindfulness (and other) neural practices to cultivate these powerful human skills. • Conventional wisdom says that stress and burnout originate overwhelmingly in the workplace. But is that even true anymore? Of course, our work can be stressful, but we’re increasingly exposed to stressors that pervade society and the homefront. From digital distraction and constant change to decision fatigue, financial pressures, and political conflict, VUCA sources of stress are hijacking more of our consciousness. As stress becomes pervasive in and out of work, it is not only a personal health threat but a critical business and career challenge. Research shows that the brain creates stress and can be retrained to decenter and diminish it - and that effective stress management is not just a wellness tool - it is becoming a significant strategic advantage for individuals and organizations alike. This is why we’ve created our three-hour New Science and Solutions for Stress, Anxiety, and Burnout workshop. It is a comprehensive rollup of the most recent research and the most effective, science-confirmed solutions for clearing the mind, quieting the brain, and calming the body. • Research confirms that work-related stress profoundly impacts workforce productivity. Addressing this issue requires a comprehensive approach involving focused leadership and innovative new strategies. Among these are neural training practices that develop the mental and emotional skills to manage the brain more effectively. As these insights have emerged, evolutionary neuroscience has been pulling the cover back on our 2 million-year-old wiring, to see why the brain non-consciously (and unnecessarily) produces fear, anger, anxiety, self-criticism, and worry. In the process, we’ve discovered that what happens in the mind is reflected in the brain - and have developed the scanning and data processing technologies to visually track our thoughts, emotions, and feelings as they appear across networks and regions. We’re not only monitoring these activities, we’re learning to apply mental and emotional strategies (including mindfulness), to intervene and alter outcomes. These scientific insights are unlocking valuable new capabilities. Just as we can train the brain to non-consciously ride a bicycle, we can now train it to notice and snap out of autopilot - and to reframe and resolve stress, anxiety, and burnout. We hope you’ll join us to learn more at our new three-hour workshop called New Science and Solutions for Stress, Anxiety, and Burnout. • Learning About EQ Cannot Develop EQ - Emotional Intelligence is an increasingly critical leadership capability. But does learning about compassion make you more compassionate? No. Critical EQ skills like compassion, empathy, self-awareness, and self-regulation cannot be developed through declarative learning. You can read about why they’re important, see them portrayed in a video, discuss their attributes, internalize case studies, and closely analyze them - but you won’t experience (or strengthen) the embodied sensation of the emotions themselves. This is like learning to ride a bicycle by reading a book about bikes. No matter how much you learn, you won’t be able to ride one until your brain is trained to recognize and respond to the millions of sensory balance signals firing entirely below your level of consciousness. Organizational Mindfulness will teach you the science of experiential, procedural learning that can change mindsets and behaviors in the present and create new habits and neural defaults over time. This is essential knowledge for high-performers and high-potentials, executives, operating leaders, coaches, and educators. • As our companies shift gears to an urgent focus on execution in 2025, issues like employee stress and burnout may seem to be slipping out of focus. However, the challenges remain at record levels and are the most destructive forces in leadership failure, cultural toxicity, disengagement, productivity, and turnover. Companies know that they have to pay attention, and increasingly so do individuals in the workforce. Research shows that stress is created in the brain as a reaction to thoughts, emotions, or circumstances that are imagined or unfold in consciousness. It is not the stimulus that triggers distress but our perception of it. And that perception is entirely within our control. Research also shows that we can change the automatic perception of any stressor and rewire our response to decenter and diminish it. Just as we can temporarily alter the firing patterns of anxiety or depression using pharmaceutical intervention, we can change them permanently through neural practice. We’re learning more about these techniques every day - which is why we’ve created our three-hour New Science and Solutions for Stress, Anxiety, and Burnout workshop. It is a comprehensive rollup of the most recent research and the most effective, science-confirmed solutions for clearing the mind, quieting the brain, and calming the body.
