Hi everyone! Boise State ECE and the Institute for Microelectronics Education and Research (MER) are launching a new University Foundations class taught by Dr. Jennifer Houle in Spring 2025 that covers semiconductor science and technology. We need your help finding another 2-3 industry folks willing to serve as (paid) adjunct discussion section instructors for this course!!! Basically, sit with a group of students ~1 hour/week and help facilitate thoughtful discussion and answer questions. There will be very little technical content, as these are primarily freshman who are *not* engineering majors. Please email or DM me if you or someone you know might be interested! A few more details: Students will learn what semiconductors are, where they are used in Idaho and beyond, how to build basic circuits, and what careers are possible in the semiconductor industry. They will explore industry innovations and manufacturing, trace paths to reach career goals in the semiconductor industry, and investigate the future of semiconductor science through team challenges and learning explorations. Thanks!

We had a great day last week teaming up with Micron to host the first ever Careers in High Tech World for 8th graders. It was a huge success! Students came from across the valley and had an excellent day: there was a thrilling semiconductor-focused lesson (car races!), and wonderful tour of Micron, and a panel where we heard from Boise State students and Micron employees about the industry. The students were engaged and brilliant, as always. We were thrilled to partner in this event and continue to provide education to all students across Idaho. A big thank you to Micron for the space and for supporting and celebrating students! Last week, the MER Institute hosted the biannual “Chips and Salsa” event, an engaging showcase held each fall and spring semester where Boise State College of Engineering graduate students present their latest research and connect with industry leaders. With over eight graduate students presenting their cutting-edge projects, attendees had a unique opportunity to explore topics ranging from nanogenerators and power grid monitoring to the development of circuits for medical devices. Students showcased their research and innovations to a captivated audience that included Boise State professors, program directors, and representatives from prominent industry players like Micron, American Semiconductor, and the Idaho STEM Action Center. Following the student presentations, attendees enjoyed refreshments from Boise's Salsa Boss, and gained further insights from a series of talks?from industry and university experts. The event was a success and highlighted Boise State’s commitment to supporting its students and strengthening ties with industry partners! ???????? ???? ???????????????????? ?????????? ???? ?????? ???????? ????????! Boise State and the MER Institute were thrilled to host leaders from around the globe for a commemoration of UPWARDS for the Future - a powerful partnership between American and Japanese universities and companies, focused on building a diverse, skilled semiconductor workforce and uplifting women in the industry. Representatives from Micron Technology, Tokyo Electron US, Boise State University, and government offices gathered with special guests like President Marlene Tromp, Governor Brad Little, and esteemed professionals from Tokyo. All came together on Boise State's campus to spotlight the growth of this impactful partnership. A huge thank you to the Consular Office of Japan in Portland and everyone who helped make this event a success! Together, we're driving groundbreaking research and creating opportunities for the next generation of female STEM leaders. #UPWARDSfortheFuture #WomenInSTEM #GlobalInnovation #GlobalCollaboration #STEM

We are once again highlighting our Chip Ambassadors - Boise State University undergraduates who are doing incredible educational work across the valley! These Chip Ambassadors will be going into classrooms to teach students about semiconductors and microelectronics. Following the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, the United States government seeks to grow semiconductor production and research throughout the country. This starts with teaching K-12 students about the concepts and career opportunities, and it's Boise State Students at the forefront of this education. Read more about who they are and what they are doing in our most recently published article, linked below. We are proud to work with these brilliant minds who are supporting Idaho and the nation in this cutting-edge global industry!
