关于我们
The Institute for Mathematical and Statistical Innovation (IMSI) is a mathematical sciences research institute funded by the National Science Foundation. It is managed by the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is hosted at the University of Chicago. The essential mission of IMSI is to apply rigorous mathematics and statistics to urgent, complex scientific and societal problems, and to spur transformational change in the mathematical sciences and the mathematical sciences community. This mission is based on a vision with three fundamental elements: innovation, communication, and diversity.

If you are not already familiar with it, you might check out the IMSI - Institute for Mathematical and Statistical Innovation. In particular, they are running a series of meetings on #DigitalTwins in 2025 -- details are available here: https://lnkd.in/gRNYVwSX --> Humble brag: The list of organizers for the digital twins sessions includes several members of the CCO and Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences.

Thanks to the IMSI - Institute for Mathematical and Statistical Innovation at the University of Chicago for organising and putting together the workshop "Challenges in Neuroimaging Data Analysis", which I was fortunate to attend in person at the end of August in the windy city! ?? The workshop provided a comprehensive discussion of mathematical and statistical challenges in neuroimaging data analysis, from neuroimaging techniques to large-scale neuroimaging studies and statistical learning methods. I particularly enjoyed the panel discussions on population neuroscience and brain connectome, as well as learning about scalable approaches to modelling longitudinal neuroimaging data. I also presented a poster on my PhD project entitled "Clinical Phenotypes Associated with Cerebral Small Vessel Disease - A UK Biobank Study". This was also my first time in the US, which made the experience all the more interesting and enriching. Chicago is a fascinating city to explore - from going to The Art Institute, through enjoying an architecture boat trip, the city skyline, Chinatown, and walking for hours along the wondrous streets and corners of downtown Chicago, I had a wonderful time! #neuroimaging #dataanalysis #statistics #IMSI #fMRI

I am thrilled to share my 8-week journey at the University of Chicago! This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Summer for Undergraduate Mathematics and Statistics Accelerator (SUMSA) Program at the IMSI - Institute for Mathematical and Statistical Innovation. The program challenged me with advanced concepts in Probability, Abstract Linear Algebra, Analysis, and Regression, providing valuable insights into the rigor of graduate-level mathematics and allowing me to explore potential PhD paths in my field. ??Insights: Collaborating with a diverse group of intelligent peers expanded my mathematical horizons beyond what I'd previously encountered. This experience was truly eye-opening, offering clarity on potential career paths in mathematics, deepening my appreciation for collaborative problem-solving, and reigniting my passion for my favorite subject. ??Gratitude Recognition: I'm grateful to the IMSI directors for this rare opportunity, my SUMSA classmates for their unwavering support and encouragement, and UC Merced for introducing me to this life-changing program. ??Life in the City: Chicago was amazing! Beyond the academic rigor, the city itself became an integral part of my summer adventure. I was amazed by the architecture during the boat tours along the Chicago River, the iconic deep-dish pizza, and bike rides along the scenic Lakefront Trail seeing the city skyline. ??Ending Remarks: This summer has not only solidified my love for mathematics but also broadened my horizons culturally and personally. The blend of academic rigor and urban exploration has opened doors I never imagined. As I return back to UC Merced, I carry with me not just mathematical knowledge, but also cherished memories of an amazing city. I'm excited to see where this experience will lead me next. #Mathematics #SUMSA #UniversityOfChicago #SummerProgram #STEM #ChicagoExperience
