In a new podcast series, the Ecological Mindset Series, we welcome Dr. Brianne Donaldson, Director of Religious Studies at UC Irvine. Brianne discusses the core principles of Jainism, specifically through the lens of nonviolence and the treatment of all sentient beings. Her knowledge sheds light on the transition to an ecological civilization, where society and nature can coexist more symbiotically. In this episode, we consider how the Dharma traditions relate to social and environmental activism, and how Brianne would apply Dharma values to create a more sustainable world. Dr. Jane Goodall is an ethologist, conservationist, and UN Messenger of Peace who is best known for her exceptionally detailed and long-term research on the chimpanzees of Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania. ?????????? Dr. Goodall’s approach to conservation is based on her philosophy that human needs must be addressed in order to achieve durable protection for the natural world. Addressing the needs of human populations in and around forest habitats is, in Goodall's opinion, the only way to long-lasting, systemic change. At EcoCiv, we're also dedicated to promoting long-term solutions for the wellbeing of people and the planet. Our work emphasizes equitable and sustainable access to food, water, and work, striving to create a world where every individual and ecosystem can thrive. Want to learn more? Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming blog series diving into the concept of systems change!

In the second episode of our new podcast series, the Ecological Mindset Series, we welcome Jeffery D. Long, a professor of Religion and Asian Studies at Elizabethtown College. Jeff discusses the fundamental principles of Jainism and Hinduism and reflects on his own relationship with these religions. He describes the role of Jainism in today’s society and shares how he introduces the Dharma traditions to his students. We consider how the Dharma traditions relate to social and environmental activism, and how he would apply Dharma values to create a more sustainable world. His knowledge acts as an important exposure to the Dharma traditions outside of India. Make sure to listen to the new episode today! Linked here: https://lnkd.in/eJ8vvMx8

Did you know that the UN Conference of the Parties 28 (COP28) took place last week? International leaders met in Dubai, UAE, to discuss the developing crisis of anthropogenic climate change, which disproportionately threatens the most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations across the globe. What did you miss? Honestly, not too much. Often, COP conferences leave the public feeling underwhelmed due to the limited promises made to coordinate global climate action for a sustainable future. However, we do not feel disheartened. It makes our work here at EcoCiv that much more dire to pursue, and we are ready and eager to rise to the challenge. Moving forward, we aim to see a world in which global leaders can come to a collective agreement on climate change and the ways in which we can improve the wellbeing of people and the planet.
