?? Who doesn’t enjoy the amazing color patterns of butterflies? Recently, zoologists from George Washington University have “discovered a gene that produces an RNA molecule – not a protein – [that] controls where dark pigments are made during butterfly metamorphosis.” This is a significant finding because it was assumed that black pigments came about via a protein-coding gene like other pigments. However, this was not the case. These scientists used a special genome-editing technique to show that when a gene that produces the RNA molecule is removed, “butterflies completely lose their black pigmented scales, showing a clear link between RNA activity and dark pigment development.” They then researched just how the lncRNA molecule operates during wing development. Not surprisingly, they found “a perfect correlation” between where these black scales form and where the RNA is expressed. The scientists found that several other butterflies had this unique RNA and erroneously concluded that it “had evolved to control new placements in the patterns of dark pigments.” How can such exquisite precision be attributed to evolution? ?? Powerful scientific theories are compelling narratives that change the way people think. If the greatest writers had been well-versed in fields of science, then history might have also remembered them as eminent scientific theorists. Hallmarks of excellent writing like simplicity, soundness, wit, and intrigue wrapped in a lucid style make for an engaging story, which, time has revealed, is the backbone of powerful scientific theories. Influential theories can change a perspective about some simple observation that’s then extrapolated into a compelling narrative that radically transforms the way people think about life. Despite evolution's theory that external, unseen forces shape creatures and help them to adapt, a creature's traits are the real causal change agents, and a theory of biological design (TOBD) uses this as a starting point. The first sentence in a recent evolutionary news story set the stage for the rest of the article: “Flowers like hibiscus use an invisible blueprint established very early in petal formation that dictates the size of their bullseyes—a crucial pre-pattern that can significantly impact their ability to attract pollinating bees.” Such a statement could easily have come from a creation science publication. After all, blueprints come from the minds of architects or engineers and are not cobbled together by mindless processes. To suggest that flower petals somehow randomly evolved to guide pollinating insects to the center of the flower is an idea, a theory, and a poor one at that. Bee and flower would have to have gradually and slowly evolved over vast time periods to achieve such amazing, detailed mutualism. But there is no way to document this. ?? According to one evolutionary scientist, "The grand puzzle of the Cambrian explosion surely must rank as one of the most important outstanding mysteries in evolutionary biology." The sudden appearances of diverse, complex, fully-formed types of fossils in Cambrian strata was a recognized problem by Charles Darwin in the 1800s and persists as an enigma today. For example, the phylum Mollusca (molluscs) is an amazing and diverse assemblage of invertebrates. It includes squids, clams, tusk shells, octopuses, snails, and chitons. But what was the origin of this large and amazing group? According to evolutionism, "The first molluscs probably arose during Precambrian times because fossils attributed to Mollusca appear in geological strata as old as the early Cambrian period." But, as they admit, the only mollusc ancestors that have been found are still molluscs. However, this past August, BBC reported about a half-a-billion-year-old slug that supposedly revealed non-mollusc mollusc origins. Is this a missing link?
