Check out the latest article by inSpring Talent Director Jason Garbarino and Advisory Board Member Ranil S. Herath that covers why #international #talent is an imperative to solving the workforce shortage in #healthcare "Solving the nursing shortage and addressing long-standing diversity gaps in the profession begins with embracing solutions that deal with the systemic barriers and misperceptions that hinder attracting and retaining international talent. By doing so, we can improve nurse retention, patient outcomes, grow faculty pipelines, increase workforce diversity, and advance the nursing profession." https://lnkd.in/dAN7dMae

??20%+ of the IT/engineering workforce is foreign born ??20%+ of the healthcare workforce is foreign born ??74% of all grad electrical engineering students are international ??72% of all grad computer science students are international Retaining international student graduates into the regional workforce is *the* catalyst to skilled talent shortages. Steve Tobocman said it well during today’s “Global Talent, Local Impact” session when he stated “a workforce strategy without international students is like a Michigan economy without cars and autos” Anuj Gupta The Welcoming Center Global Detroit Campus Philly Rutgers University - Camden Elizabeth Atkins Chris Hoehn-Saric

We’re at a watershed moment with the US workforce and not enough people and leaders are taking action. The fertility rate required to maintain the population/workforce is 2.1 - it hasn’t been at that rate for decades and this year was reported to have fallen to 1.6. Said another way, it’s impossible to sustain the productive workforce and staff our world leading healthcare system without leaning heavily into foreign born talent, and the low hanging fruit are US educated international students. “If your native born population is shrinking, then as a matter of arithmetic, the only way you can sustain your labor force is to allow more immigration. ***That's just math.*** So the effect on the productivity of the economy and the ability to support government services depends a little bit on the nature of that immigration. We know, for example, that skilled immigrants over their lifetime contribute more in taxes to the government than they withdraw in the form of services.” #STEM #internationalstudents #workforce #healthcare #OPT #STEMOPT #tech #manufacturing https://lnkd.in/e6grC562
