'If you’ve spent any amount of time in health research, you know how impactful caregivers are to the patient experience. When I found myself on the ground floor for a change, called to duty with little warning and equipped only with a desire to support my mom, I got to thinking about what it means to be a caregiver, and the complexities of becoming one.' In our latest article, Chris Jackson shares his recent experience of caregiving. Applying a dash of social theory, he unpacks his conflicting feelings, and how he managed his own self-doubt in the moment. #caregiver #identitytheory #statuscharacteristicstheory #identitycontroltheory #marketresearch #inspiredhealth

September brings focus to pain and pain management with Pain Awareness Month.? Some research that we did at Inspired Health a while ago sticks with me, even years later.?We spoke with patients that had a chronic pain diagnosis and what struck me most was the variety of their paths to this diagnosis (there are so many potential causes!), the many doctors and treatments involved in their journey to diagnosis, but ESPECIALLY the awful submission to the hopelessness that they'll have this pain for the rest of their lives!?In 2021, 21% of US adults experienced chronic pain of some sort - for something so prevalent, it was shocking that many had given up hope for a solution. Since that research, we've worked with multiple clients to better understand possible causes of this pain, and help develop and communicate possible solutions to medical professionals in order to help these patients.?Knowing that the work we do can make such a massive impact makes coming to work every day that much more meaningful! #PainAwarenessMonth #inspiringhope

Despite our ever changing world, businesses should not overlook the power collaboration can have on strategy and innovation. Something special happens when we collaborate— and I see this first hand every day working at Inspired Health. I recently wrote an article for Quirks that discusses how we do this in our qualitative research (linked below). I share how at Inspired we leverage collaboration when conducting qualitative research to energize our insights and empower our clients through a Structured Participation And Research Collaboration (SPARC) approach. While this is one example of SPARC, there are so many other ways to incorporate the approach into any research methodology. How can you implement SPARC into your research? https://lnkd.in/esAdNkgH

Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) is an irregular heartbeat, or arrhythmia, which can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. September is AFib Awareness Month. I lost my dad from a stroke related to AFib, which I believe could have been prevented had we all been better informed about the risks. As a result of his loss, I've become far more proactive about my health and more observant about my family's health. In fact, I'm writing this from the Cardiology unit at my local hospital, where I've taken my mom for a heart procedure. AFib can happen to anyone, and while very treatable, invites a whole host of other issues. Please take a moment to learn the risks, and symptoms, as well as ways you can treat or prevent AFib at: heart.org/AFib

The Paris Olympics may be over… but the Paris Paralympics are just beginning! This last week of August marks not only the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paralympics, but also the last week in Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Awareness Month. SMA is a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, impacting the muscles used for activities such as breathing, eating, crawling, & walking. A 2020 study published in Neurological Sciences found that people with SMA who competed in sports had higher levels of self-esteem, lower levels of depression, greater social identity, and greater quality of life. Australian boccia athlete and three-time Paralympian with SMA, Dan Michel, seems to agree: "People always say there's nothing like it; the feeling of succeeding at sport at the top level. It's super addictive."* At Inspired Health, we've been lucky enough to learn from people with SMA (and their caretakers) about their unique perspective living with the condition. Specifically, we've gained valuable insight around the impact of SMA on independence and the importance of developing treatments designed with promoting independence as a top priority. The Paralympics Opening Ceremony is this Wednesday - will you be watching? ? (*See Dan's full interview on his Paralympic goals at: https://lnkd.in/ed_Egc3b)

Did you know that most lung cancer patients in India are non-smokers? I was recently surprised to learn this. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths globally (accounting for about 1 in 5 cancer deaths in the US), yet many people still believe that smoking is the sole cause. Today, on World Lung Cancer Day, it's crucial to recognize that while smoking is a significant risk factor, non-smokers can also develop lung cancer due to exposure to pollution and contaminated air over time. Fortunately, advancements in early detection and treatment have led to a decrease in mortality rates. This year’s World Lung Cancer Day theme emphasizes the power of unity in the fight against lung cancer. It's a great reminder that early screening can save lives. #WorldLungCancerDay #LungCancerAwareness #EarlyDetection #HealthAdvocacy

As June starts to come to a close, I want to take a minute to draw attention to June as Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness month.?Today, there are nearly 7 million Americans suffering from Alzheimer's or some other dementia - and that's expected to nearly double to 13 million by 2050.?My aunt is 1 of those 7 million, and two other loved ones used to be in that count.?To say the research of this disease is near and dear to me is an understatement! At Inspired Health, I've been lucky to be a part of research raising awareness of MCI (the precursor to ALZ), helping people spot the early warning signs and take on preventative measures to slow development of additional symptoms. Early detection is key to treating this devastating disease - so today, I encourage you to pause and do a little research about MCI, Alzheimer's, and brain health.?Are you worried about any of your loved ones (or yourself)??Begin those conversations now. #alzheimers #brainhealth #endalz
